I love pulled pork. It’s one of those things I’ll try every time I see it on a menu in a restaurant I haven’t been in. Yesterday, I decided to attempt it to make it myself in a slow cooker and it turned out pretty delicious!
At home we have this weird Asian slow cooker thing that has 4 settings (and you have to choose one): soup, stew, rice, congee. I opted for the soup setting which I assume was the lowest setting. I used pork shoulder meat. It is a very cheap cut of pork and works perfectly. I filled the slow cooker with water, put the pork in and added brown sugar, and diced onions. I think I cooked the pork in the pot for around 8 hours.
After 8 hours, I drained the water and pulled it with a fork. I then put everything else back into the pot and poured in an entire bottle of bbq sauce. I used Wildly Delicious BBQ Sauce in Applewood and Hickory Smoked. I put the slow cooker back on for another 2 hours. I made the mistake of not stirring it around, so the bottom burned a bit.
The pork was then served on toasted buns with more BBQ sauce!
