The Face Shop: Photo Blur

I don’t wear much foundation and when I like to have a bit of coverage, BB cream is enough. I’ve been turning to Asian creams lately because they tend to blend really well. Also for some reason, they only ever come in one shade that is perfect.

It has a slight citrus scent that I don’t mind and the tube makes it easy to squeeze the right amount. It’s a non-greasy BB cream, so I do recommend moisturizing first if you don’t have oily skin. Some sites say it has SPF 37, but for some reason, that description has a faint white sticker on top of the packaging where it used to say that.

When I’m feeling extra conscious about my redness, I put a little on (it goes a long way) and I’m usually still good about 6 hours later. BB creams are definitely worth trying for those who don’t like foundation every day!

nomakenolife- April 2017

I am obsessed with Asian products lately so I couldn’t resist trying a subscription of Japanese box nomakenolife. This month I received a box of 5 full sized must-have skin care products.

This Shiseido Senka Perfect Whip face wash I use daily. It’s gentle and a little bit turns into a soft lather.

The Derizum moisturizer has 15 types of amino acids, 8 ceramides and more and made my skin feel super soft, like a baby’s butt. Perhaps that’s why there is a photo of a baby on it. I don’t know.

Dot Free’s Deep Clay Mask was also gentle on my skin. It wasn’t drying and made my skin feel firmer.

Menturm’s Lip Dress was a lovely neutral lip balm that has SPF 12 sun protection. My lips feel soft when I use this.

The most mysterious item in the box was this melon gel thing. It is an all-in-one gel that functions as a toner, moisturizer, essence and make-up base. It’s kind of eerie because it looks like jello and when you scoop some out, the next day it looks like perfect jello again. I like to wear it under my make-up.

All these products I have implemented into my life. At around $30 (CAD)/month, it is a bit pricey but I can’t wait to see what I get for May!

Influenster: Clarins Hydra-Essentiel

I recently received the Clarins Hydra-Essentiel VoxBox from Influenster.

The sample came in a tube, instead of the jar that it normally comes in. This makes for a good little moisturizer on the go. The only thing is I’d squirt too much occasionally and then couldn’t put it back. I enjoyed it because it was light and silky, not oily at all.

I enjoyed the product itself because it was light and silky, not oily at all. It worked nicely under my makeup and kept my skin moisturized all day.

Topbox – April 2017

Last month, I became a Topbox subscriber because it is relatively inexpensive at $12/month with free shipping. I opted for the eco-friendly version that came in a pouch instead of a box. It’s also a good size for community mailboxes.

I received 4 main items and two bonuses that weren’t announced as part of the box.

One of the extras was this Garnier Skin Active Moisture Bomb. Can’t wait to add this into my pile of daily masks.

I usually don’t like receiving hair products in my cosmetic subscriptions because I find they are the least exciting thing but this dry shampoo by Cake I really enjoyed. It doesn’t leave a gross white residue and it also smelled delicious. It brought life to my greasy hair many times.

I already have a Too Faced Benefit Mascara in my collection but it’s a good one to have a back up for!

This Bliss Energizing Vitamin C Day cream makes my skin feel super smooth without feeling greasy. There’s a citrusy tinge. I almost wish there was more of it!

Lastly there was a Laritzy lip pencil in Moonlit Mauve. Laritzy is a company that prides itself in being cruelty-free. The pencil is infused with plan oils and it seems possible to just wear it on it’s own without any lip stick. Since it’s not technically a liner, I think this is allowed!

I liked all the April TopBox samples so I think I’ll continue being a subscriber. My make up collection is getting somewhat ridiculous but a girls’ gotta have some kind of vice!

Cherry Blossom Look

The weather is beautiful this sunny Saturday. I’m going to head out and enjoy some fresh air. Spring is my favourite season. It’s not too hot, not too cold and flowers are in bloom.

I love pink eyeshadow and I was inspired by cherry blossoms to do this eye and lip look. Now to own the day with my spring look.

Benefit #GetRealLips

I got this free Benefit “They’re Real Double the Lip” liner and lipstick for entering some form on their site a few weeks ago. It’s an interesting lipstick with an embedded liner.

The shade I received was pink thrills, a nice pink shade, lighter than my lips.

It claims to be long-wear for 8 hours but I found it easily smudged (at least on my hand). They probably mean if you didn’t eat for 8 hours!

Easter Long Weekend!

I don’t really celebrate Easter unless you count buying discount chocolate when it’s over. I’m just happy I have an extra day of the weekend to unwind (and play my Nintendo Switch).

I also get to experiment with more fun looks on my days off. Here is one I liked from last weekend:

I liked it enough to use it as my avatar on some of my social media. I’m trying to use some of those makeup sets before fate brings more into my life.

Tarte Make Believe in Yourself Palette

As soon as I first laid eyes on this Tarte palette, I was in love! Even the packaging is so pretty.

It almost looks like a locket from Sailor Moon or something.

The palette colours are so shimmery and metallic. It’s magical.

These were super quick swatches using my finger and avoiding wasting too much product. They’re very shimmery, so a bit hard to photograph under the light.

Now I’m ready to be a unicorn.

Pixi Glow Tonic

I’ve heard a lot of people in make-up circles rave about the Pixi Glow Tonic, so I just had to try it myself. Plus, I didn’t currently have any toner in my routine. It’s a little expensive, perhaps because of all the buzz. I bought the bigger bottle which cost almost $40.

It has glycolic acid which is good at exfoliating the impurities in skin.

I’ve been using it two times a day for a week and a half so far. I put a few drops on a cotton pad and I find that it picks up a lot of dirt that general face washing had missed. A little goes a long way. My skin is also looking more even. I find that when I put make up on it goes on a lot smoother.

This bottle is going to last me a while, but I’m definitely believing the hype!

Nature Republic Aloe Gel

My skin gets dry a lot when it’s cold. I have a lot of serums and moisturizers for my face, but I wanted something more natural so I got this 92% Aloe Vera Gel from Nature Republic.

The product itself is a super clear gel. When you apply it to your skin it might seem oily for a second but soon your skin drinks it away. It’s multi-purpose. I rub it anywhere that feels dry, or I can put it under neath an actual moisturizer if I am feeling dry. There’s a cooling effect to aloe that is nice and brings down redness.

Aloe is also anti-fungal, so it can help with acne and other skin ailments! There are so many uses for aloe gel that this will be a staple in my routine, along with other products.
