OROGOLD

IMG_0007

I bought these OROGOLD products 6 months ago. It was October and we were celebrating something at the end of the work day so I had had some drinks. For some reason I decided to go shopping afterwards at Yonge & Bloor. The sales lady outside the OROGOLD shop handed me a sample and I took it. Before I knew it, I was taken into the store and offered a demonstration. I was there for at least 30 minutes and I really needed to pee so I told her no thank you to the price she offered. Then she gave me a final offer of $60 for the 24k Deep Peeling Mask and Renewal Night cream so I said FINE. Whatever. I just really wanted to leave and pee. According to the prices on their official site, I actually got a decent deal.

I’ve been using the products twice a week for 6 months now so I’ll give you an honest review despite their semi-annoying sales tactics.

Both products came in little spheres in a fancy box with a certificate of authenticity. They definitely looked like they were luxury products.

The 24K Deep Peeling mask had the consistency of glue with little gold flakes. To be honest, I don’t really know the advantage of having gold in facial products but it looks nice. I used it mostly in my T-zone, and around my lips. It did a good job of rubbing off dead skin and my face did feel smooth immediately after. The trick is to leave it on for 45secs-1 min before rubbing it off. The sales lady recommended I only use this once a week, but I decided to use it twice a week and it seems fine. I think any more would probably dry your skin though.

IMG_0018

Each time I used the peeling mask, I would immediately follow with the night cream. On the box it says you can use this every day but I also have other products at my disposal and did not want to waste this pricey cream. It also had gold flakes and a smell that was faint and not too strong.

After each OROGOLD routine, my skin did feel softer and smoother but it wouldn’t last more than a day or two which is why I decided to use it twice a week. Another thing I have noticed is that I used to have occasional breakouts but have experienced a lot less since using this. I can’t if it was OROGOLD or a combination of different products though.

Would I recommend this? While I like the feeling of my skin after the peel, I don’t know if I would purchase again at regular price. I would also stay away from the store as the sales people are way too aggressive!

Dollarama Review: Bejeweled Blitz

IMG_1240

One of the biggest treasure troves of Dollarama is its toy selection. I wish I had such a cheap selection of toys at my disposal when I was a kid. Anyways, recently I picked up Bejeweled Bitz, a game that began originally as a Facebook game.

IMG_1243

The box comes in a nice case of 84 cards that have two gems on each. There are also 7 plastic boost gems you collect for extra points.

IMG_1250

The game is played by drawing cards and making lines of cards. Matching 3 in a row combines those cards into a deck. Chains can also be made as a result (like the real game). The game is over when the deck runs out. The winner is the person with the most points. Points are calculated by counting the numbers of cards in your largest pile. The jewels count as 5 extra points each and are obtained by being the first person to make a row of the corresponding shape.

The game is a lot of chance, but there’s some thinking involved to in terms of where you place the cards. For $3, this was actually worth it as it’s a great adaptation of the mobile game.

Dollarama Reviews: Duncan Hines Chewy Fudge

IMG_1261We bought this by accident, mistakingly thinking we had bought a Betty Crocker brand brownie mix. The box colours are so similar. For $2, it’s more expensive than most cake mixes in a real grocery store but when brownies mix can be picked up next door who can resist?

IMG_1262
The instructions only required one egg and water, so no milk or cream required.

IMG_1264This is what it looked like after the 50 strokes, as instructed.

IMG_1266After 30 minutes it looked like a regular brownie.

IMG_1267When we cut it and tried to take a brownie out it all crumbled. However, it was chewy and chocolatey like it promised. The top crust had a nice crunch to it.

Would we buy again? Maybe. They tasted delicious, they just weren’t intact like brownies should be.

My First Ipsy Glam Bag

IMG_1371

I finally received my first ipsy glam bag. It’s like the competitor of Birchbox that is affiliated with make up guru Michelle Phan. The service is only $10 a month (but since I’m in Canada it is around $20). Unlike Birchbox, many of the items are full size or bigger samples.

IMG_1364

It arrived in a hot pink envelope that certainly good not be missed.

IMG_1376

Each month the products also come with a mini make up bag. The March theme was Floral Fantasy so the floral printed bag was fitting.

IMG_1379

The first item was this Pixi by Petra mineral eyeshadow duo.

IMG_1377

Next was this Glow Oil Treatment to get shiny and hydrated hair.

IMG_1375This NYX butter lipstick in POPS EXPLOSIF came in full size ($7.99).

I forgot to take a photo of it but I also got a full-sized Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter ($18).

IMG_1374

Lastly, there was an Oval concealer brush from Crown Brush ($6).

People like to compare ipsy and Birchbox but I find that they are two very different services. Ipsy provides bigger sizes and great value, but I find that Birchbox delivers higher end products that you can try before you spend money on the full sized costly products. It’s really up to you to decide which service you like better.

Mr. Tea

IMG_1381

I added another item to my Fred and Friends family of products! Meet Mr. Tea. He is the most awesome tea infuser.

IMG_1384

I just love his chillin’ smile.

IMG_1385

He comes apart in two pieces and you can put tea in his pants.

IMG_1387

As he swims in your water, it turns into tea!

Dollarama Review: Bath Turtles

IMG_1274

I couldn’t resist picking up these adorable turtle bathtub treads. They also come in assorted fish with five in a pack. I don’t actually have a bath mat in the tub so I thought these would be a cute alternative.

IMG_1276

I set them up in random directions in my tub.

IMG_1279

Now I can have things smile at me as I take a shower. How nice is that?

Food Face

IMG_1231
This adorable Food Face plate is also from Fred and Friends. There’s a Mrs. Food Face too but I couldn’t find it at Marshalls.
IMG_1237I thought the idea of creating faces with food was so adorable that I couldn’t resist. I am a 5 year old kid at heart.
IMG_1234The ceramic plate has a simple face with no hair, allowing you to play with your food and create your own characters.
Here are a few of my own creations:

Russian Doll Measuring Cups

IMG_1218

I found these adorable Russian Doll measuring Cups at Marshalls last weekend! They are originally from the official Fred & Friends website where I want to buy all the things.

IMG_1222

There are three dolls included. The top and the bottom half of the doll have different measurements in cup sizes.

IMG_1225

The number is indicated on the inside and include: 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup, 3/4 cup, 1/3 cup 2/3 cup and 1 cup.

IMG_1257

They are such an adorable addition to the kitchen counter!

Dollarama Reviews: 3 in 1 Solar Robot Kit

IMG_1196

Doesn’t this solar-powered kit look awesome? I couldn’t resist this kit for $3. It promised 3 robots in one: regular robot, tank, scorpion.

IMG_1199

Inside the box, there was a set of instructions, stickers and the plastic moldings in blue and white. They were labelled with numbers so that you could tell what is what when following instructions.

IMG_1201

The instructions were quite complicated. You actually had to build the robot first in order to even understand how to configure it to the rest of the robotic creatures. The solar power panel was attached to a motor and it worked well when not actually attached to anything. There were a lot of bits and pieces to put together.

Sometimes we looked at the instructions and had no idea what hole they were asking us to put things into. Other times pieces of plastic from the molding would just be in the way. It specifies that it is for age 10 and up but I’d be impressed to find a 10 year old who can get this thing working.

IMG_1203

Nearly 2 hours later, this is what we ended up with. He was lopsided, and was too heavy for it’s own motor. Or maybe it was midnight and our lamps weren’t generating enough power for the panel. Either way we were left with one sad robot and decided never to touch it again.

You can watch our struggles on video here.

Sriracha2Go

sriracha4

I want a lot of unnecessary things from the internet but when I saw the Sriracha2Go, I knew I had to have it.

sriracha1

They are $7 each or $15 for 3. I decided on 3 because I probably know at least one person who would want this after seeing me with one and it seemed like a good deal. The one thing to note is that it doesn’t actually come with sauce inside. That didn’t matter to me because who doesn’t have a bottle of Huy Fong’s magnificent sauce in their fridge already?

sriracha2

The bottle has a very similar design and colour scheme to the classic sriracha sauce, but it’s actually different. Even the Chinese words are different. (I have no idea what they say).

sriracha3

But to the untrained eye, it totally looks like a miniature bottle for the busy person on the go. Now I can make sure everybody’s food is delicious!

Now I can have sriracha everywhere #sriracha2go

I got my order after 2 weeks or so. One thing of note to international orders is that the tracking system they use kind of sucks so once it passes the US border you won’t really know where it is. Their customer service does answer fast though if you have any concerns. Now off to sauce my Chinese New Year meal!
