DIY Watercolour Birthday Card

IMG_5815

This year, I also promised myself that I would set a bit of time to be creative without being in front of a computer. On Boxing Day, I scored this beautiful set of watercolour paints at Michaels for 50% off!

To be honest, I haven’t painted anything in years but I used to love to when I was younger. Grandpa also enjoyed painting when he was alive and there’s something special about making (analog) art. The rawness and the fact there’s no undo buttons with mistakes is a unique experience in 2015.

I started with something easy and made this birthday card for Mom.

Dollarama actually sells blank cards (for the printer) for $1 a pack. I think I’ll be making homemade cards for all occasions for now on to practise painting!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

I’ve got some crazy catching up to do on blog posts but thank goodness for the holidays! Since it’s Christmas I thought I’d share some photos of my day with you.

I Went to A Zine Fair!

zine2A few weeks ago, I attended my first Canzine, a zine and underground culture fair in Toronto hosted by Broken Pencil Magazine. There were a lot of things for sale from indie publishers including zines, comics, prints, posters and more. It was an inspirational experience and motivated me to want to maybe create something for Canzine 2015.

zine
I did however contribute a comic to Static Zine‘s “Milestone” issue which I was lucky enough to pick up in colour! Static is put together by some good friends and contains all sorts of stories and art based on the issue’s theme.

zine3I received this adorable drawing by comic artist Sam Noir.

On our way down the stairs, we were approached by a strange man selling comics from his trench coat. His name was Steven Trigg and his book “Things I’ve Thought” are illustrated jokes that are so lame they are awesome. Nash ended up buying a copy.

If you’re interested in zines and pretty paper, one of my friends write a great blog about them called Paper Trail Diary.

PEI Adventures Continued

The Birches

The majority of my PEI trip involved wedding-related activities. The wedding took place at the PEI Brewing Company. We spent some time there making necessary preparations and I snapped a few photos during regular hours:

The family of the bride and groom rented out cottages for the week. The view from there was peaceful and beautiful.

I had a great time in PEI. I hope to be back in the East Coast soon to do more exploring (and eating)! I couldn’t leave without buying these:

I’m in PEI!

PEI 2014

Nash and I are currently in Prince Edward Island for my best friend’s wedding next weekend. We had a little bit of time to explore over the past few days, so here’s what we did so far.

Sir John A Beer
We tried Gahan Craft Beer. This Honey Wheat Ale had a nice sweetness to it. This could possibly be the most Canadian looking beer.

Breakfast
The next morning we had breakfast at Phinley’s, where poutine for breakfast is a thing!

PumpkinsWe then went to a pumpkin patch to pick a few up. We got some decent sized ones for only $3!

Angry HayI enjoyed these bales of hay in the form of Angry Birds.

Laura and a Pumpkin We considered a gigantic pumpkin for a moment.

MaddieLaura has two sweet cats which were adopted. This is Maddie.

On Saturday we went to see Rich Aucoin at the PEI Brewing Company. We happend to walk in when an art battle was just ending. Aucoin himself was painting something!

2014On Sunday, we explored downtown Charlottetown. This year, they celebrated the 50 year anniversary of the 1864 Canadian Confederation Conference. Here is Laura and I with a gigantic 2014.

Cruise ShipThis cruise ship looked rather familiar.

A CowHow could we go to the east coast without visiting a Cows Icecream?

The weather was warm over the weekend so we had a chance to walk along the water and in town.

Labour Day Weekend in Espanola

Backyard
I spent Labour Day weekend at Nash’s parents’ place in Espanola, a town of around 5000 people in Northern Ontario. It was rainy all weekend but I still tried to take some photos of the beautiful scenery and other random things.

Henry’s Exposure Show 2014

Henry's Exposure Show 2014
Hey guys, I’ve had a busy week with new adventures so didn’t have time to post much! Last weekend, I attended the last day of the Henry’s Exposure Show. It was camera gear galore and I was able to test many lenses as well as shoot some animal and human models.

Woofstock 2014

Woofstock 2014
This year Woofstock moved from St. Lawrence Market to Woodbine Park near the east end beaches. I loved the new location because you could always take a break with your dog beneath the trees. There were so many types of people and dogs of all shapes and sizes.
