Cyber Monday Beauty Splurges

Ok, I am totally the worst for spending too much on make-up lately. I couldn’t resist grabbing some of Sephora’s holiday kits on Cyber Monday. Plus, they had 4 free sample bags to choose from with purchases over $25 (but let’s be real everything at Sephora is more than $25).

I grabbed The Best Bite Redux, a collection of 4 lip crayons and Smash Box’s Try It Kit. They were both awesome deals with products worth more than the set cost. Plus, I got I chose the Sephora Day-of-Soirée Swag Sample Bag which had perfumes, masks and creams for staying young!

Now off to decide my holiday party face for tonight!

My Make-Up Corner

As you can see from my previous posts, I love makeup. I’ve always been obsessed with buying and collecting make-up.

Last week for Black Friday, I bought a bunch of new cosmetics and then realized I needed to reorganize my collection so that it made more sense. I went to Muji and bought more storage units to match the ones I had. Now everything is organized and easily accessible. I have individual drawers for eyeshadows, lipsticks, bronzer/blushes, brushes, mascara and general face stuff.

I’m a feminist and I think everybody should feel great in their own skin, but if a lipstick, eye colour or whatever makes you personally feel like you can take on the world, I’m all for it. That’s what make-up is like for me. It makes me a little more confident to go about my daily life, like the ultimate placebo.

It is also a relaxing and fun routine for me in the morning. 5-10 minutes where I can myself up but also not worry too much about what the day will bring.

I also love art but often don’t have much time to sit down and draw. Makeup allows me to creatively work on the most organic canvas of all, the human face.

SHANY Eyeliner

dscf4237

SHANY had a sale so along with the eyeshadows in my previous post, I picked up their set of 12 Gel Eyeliners.

dscf4238

The 12 colours are beautiful. There are some funky ones like orange and a pale green but I think they’d be great for doing some detailed artwork on the eyes (imagine leopard print eyelids).

dscf4246

The colours are super pigmented. It didn’t take much for these swatches on my arm. It is also smudge and waterproof so my eye artwork can stay on all day.

I’m excited to play with these and do some fun things!

SHANY Eyeshadow

dscf4236

One of my Black Friday finds was this SHANY Loose Powder Glitter Eyeshadow Kit.

dscf4240

It came in 40 bright colours with two complimentary brushes. SHANY is a company I discovered on Amazon that has affordable products that don’t test on animals.

dscf4245

Here is a sample swatch of green and orange. I didn’t use that much but it is already so bright and sparkly! The bonus of loose eyeshadows is that not only can I use them for eyes, but anywhere else that needs splash of colours. Mixing it with lip gloss or chap will give me fun shades of lip colours or add a little splash in nail polish or mascara.

Now I’m ready for sparkly Christmas parties.

Estée Lalonde #ECSTYLESEARCH Wrap Party

dscf4080

My friend Melody is a fan of beauty blogger and Youtuber Estée Lalonde and I went with her to a launch party for her book Bloom. I had not actually heard of Lalonde, but I love makeup.

When I heard Lalonde speak and answer questions during her presentation I was very impressed by her down to earth personality. I connected with her right away when she talked about anxiety and how blogging had helped her overcome some of those feelings. I actually told Lalonde when she signed my book that I was new to her channel but felt moved by her speech.

The party had a bunch of make up stations and also a photo booth for taking faux magazine covers!

Along with the book, we left with a whole bunch of swag!

I can’t wait to use that Smashbox primer.

SHANY Lipstick

As a daily browser of Amazon, I discover a lot of new brands I haven’t heard of before. One of these is Shany, the same company that I recent ordered makeup brushes from. The quality of those were amazing for the price so I looked at some other things on their line. I decided to order their set of 12 Slick & Shine Lipstick.

DSCF9860

Inside the box there are 12 elegant black tubes with the lip stick colours. I love things with simple design and I think they did well in this area!

DSCF9861

There are a variety of vivid colours. They are smooth and super easy to apply without doing anything else (I don’t really use liner). A few of the colours may be a little strange but life hack: lipstick can also be used to add colour to other places on your face (cheeks, eyes, dark circles etc). I’ll find uses for the colours I don’t use on my lips for sure.

DSCF9858

There was this slightly weird envelope in my package encouraging a good review in return for more free product. Disclaimer: I didn’t do this and views are my own. The free gift (perfume, which I’m allergic to) wasn’t really worth it and I think they could get good reviews on their own!

New Makeup Brushes!

DSCF8488
I’ve had the same makeup brushes for over 6 years. Though I took great care to clean them, they started to feel a bit hard on my skin so I decided to order a new set. I found the Shany 24 Goat & Badger brush set on Amazon for around $24 (CAD), which is an awesome deal. Just because you buy stores by some high end brand name doesn’t mean you’re always getting the best.

DSCF8490
The brushes come in a faux-leather pouch great for travelling!

DSCF8492

The brushes themselves each have a slot in the bag and come in protected cases. They’re all silky smooth. It even comes with a set of instructions to tell you what each brush is for (great for the novice make up artist). I own so much make-up and I can’t wait to continue playing around with it with these new brushes!

#BioreBakingSoda Box From Influenster

DSCF8350

I recently qualified for the Influenster Bioré Baking Soda Vox! I received a complimentary set of their pore cleanser and scrub from their baking soda line.

DSCF8351

The Baking Soda pore cleanser was light and gentle on the skin. You can see little flakes of baking soda in the bottle. It leaves a nice fresh scent that is not too overwhelming. I found that using it daily doesn’t dry out my skin too much, but always remember to moisturize after cleansing your face!

DSCF8352

This was a little bit strange at first. It literally looks like baking soda when you pour it into your hand. At first, I would use way too much water and dilute it too much. It feels like a micro scrub wash when used, leaving my skin feeling fresh and exfoliated. I wouldn’t recommend using this daily as it is a little bit more drying but it does what it advertises!

The Face Shop Haul

DSCF6987-2I was really excited to find out that The Face Shop now has a downtown location at the Eaton’s Centre. Previously, I would have to go to Pacific Mall to obtain any Asian beauty products.

DSCF6983-2

Winter really dries out my hands so I purchased this Olive & Argan oil hand cream. A little goes a long way and the sent is very light.

DSCF6986-2

I also purchased more of the Real Nature face masks. A set of 15 different ones only cost $20!

DSCF6985-2

I bought this Blackhead nose strip for $1 so I could get an extra discounted face mask below:

DSCF6984-2

I’m excited to try this honey mask that is a different line than the Real Nature ones. Hopefully I won’t look like a pig haha!

DSCF6981

The lady at the cash suggested I sign up for a points card so I can collect points towards future purchases. If you ever want some affordable beauty products, be sure to check out The Face Shop.

Dollarama Reviews: Kozmic Colours

DSCF2687

$3 for 4 nail polishes sounded like a total steal. I’ve never heard of Kozmic Colours before but these are so cheap that I couldn’t not try them!

DSCF2689

Plus, I love these pastel colours. They are so appropriate for summer. I tested the teal colour.

DSCF2691

Boom! Not bad right? I used two coats on all my fingers. It goes on thin, so you do need multiple layers but it was relatively easy to apply. I’ve had it on for a few days now and it hasn’t chipped. Definitely not a bad buy.
