Last weekend, I attended WayHome music festival in Oro-Medonte, Ontario. I finally have all the photos and reviews up on Ride the Tempo. Read them here.
I’ll have a food and non-musical adventure wrap-up of the fest soon!

Nash and I attended our first ever Atomic Lollipop this past Friday and Saturday. It’s a unique convention that was a mixture of Comicon, Anime North with the 90s mixed in.
There were many stores and shops with cute things to buy.
A game room with video game consoles from all eras including duck hunt (which we were super terrible at). I still can’t understand how to aim.
Friday night, they brought to life the Much Video Dance parties of my high school days. Later in the night, it filled up with the people dancing to the music of their childhood. I saw videos from the Venga Boys, Eiffel 65 and Chumbawamba.
Areas of the science centre were open to us so we played around with this age testing machine.
Nash checking out a hologram heart.
There was a nerd circus where the performers all cosplayed!
We participated in a POG tournament. Do you remember pogs? The real game was harder than I remembered! We got crushed by a girl who could flip the entire stack at once.
The hilariously costumed Tupperware Remix Party provided soundtracked a glittery dance party.
Ghetto Mario Kart was the best. It was literally RC cars with knives and balloons taped together. Let’s try this at home.
There were so many adorable things to buy! I picked up this adorable food bracelet. How could I not??
There was free retro arcade games and pinball machines. That Star Wars pinball was super hard.
This guy truly gave crap advice.
Cold brew coffee paired well with the hot weather.
We played archery tag. It was my first time trying archery and I wasn’t very good at aiming but it was so much fun! They provided us with 10 minutes of training before we were headed off for a game of tag with 10 people.
Nash sat on a panel where he was a Pokemon master and described how to draw a Pokemon to someone who has no idea what they looked like.
Can you guess what Pokemon these guys are?
There was a nerf gun battle on Saturday night. Unfortunately we didn’t bring any guns but we observed people shooting each other for a bit.
Saturday’s evening entertainment included Elijah Wood DJing with his duo Wooden Wisdom.
Then one of my 90s dreams came true and I saw Prozzak reunite! REMEMBER PROZZAK?!
Before heading out we saw the fire circus performance which thankfully waited for all the Prozzak fans to be done!
Atomic Lollipop was truly a magical experience and I’m looking forward to what adventures they’ll bring next year.

It’s Canada’s Day here! To celebrate on my blog Ride the Tempo we wrote a huge feature on what Canadian music means to a variety of different artists. Head over here to read it now!
Spoiler alert: If you haven’t watched Jurassic World this post might reveal some things you didn’t want to know.
Last night we saw Jurassic World in D-Box. It was my first experience in one of those special moving chairs at the theatre. For this movie it actually worked out well. I felt like I was riding the helicopters or gyrosphere along with the movie characters and we could feel the stomping of the dinosaurs. It didn’t make me sick like I thought it was. It made us feel like we were part of the adventure.
I think we wouldn’t have enjoyed the movie as much without the D-Box experience mainly because the movie itself wasn’t the greatest. Here is why:
1) There were a lot of pointless backstory between the kids. Also the older kid was a terrible actor.
2) Product placement was hilarious, almost like it was parodying it.
3) Why were the dinosaurs smiling at the end?
I still had a great time watching the movie, after all it is a movie about Dinosaurs, just don’t go into it expecting too much!
I love D-Box, if you ever have the choice to experience it, take it!
A few weeks ago, I went to Bestival. While the music was heavy on DJ sets (which I’m not the biggest fan of), I still had a lot of fun. There were a lot of things that this festival did differently that made the overall experience an interesting one.
There were plenty of things to do besides see music, including a tent where you could knit.
People got married in an inflatable church with a rapping pastor.
There were hammocks.
Sponsor Perrier brought in a private greenhouse party.
I randomly received a free signed Owen Pallett CD from Fido for tweeting about the festival!
You could drink fruit juice out of the fruit.
and of course the food was delicious! Will talk more on that later.

I’m helping out with the SOCAN Songwriting Prize again. Do me a favour and vote for your favourite song! Coincidentally all the nominees this year happen to be by female artists. BOO YEAH GIRL POWER.
Started working summer hours today, meaning longer hours 4 days a week to get Friday off. Time for a quick video round-up before I head off to the next thing.
First I went to a Women in Music showcase:
Then I went to a rap show:
Then I went to the Osheaga showcase at CMW:
Enjoy! I’ll have some more non-music vlogs soon!

When we saw Finn and Jake play Card Wars in an episode of Adventure Time, we wished so hard that it was a real game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrWV4Hemfio
And it turns out it is. A single Card Wars Collectors Pack is approximately $20 and has two decks so two people can play right away. I decided to buy all the decks out so far (I think they will release more later). That way, we can switch it up and games would be different each time.
One thing to note is that it is exactly like the game in the episode meaning that the Adventure Time characters (Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum etc) aren’t actually part of the deck. Though you can imagine you are one of those characters if you wish. In fact, there is a “Hero deck” (optional) that exists where you can pretend you are characters from the show and gain special bonuses. The cards are actually ridiculous made up characters with hilarious descriptions in brand with the show. There are landscape cards, spells and even punch out hit points so you are fully ready to go in each box.
Like in the show, the winner of a match is damed the “Cool Guy” and the loser the “Dweeb”. Players try to protect their land so that their “Hero” (yourself) doesn’t get any hit points. Certain monsters need specific landscapes in order to work. The game is a lot of strategy, fun and laughs.
Ever wanted to be the evil villain in video games instead of the Hero?
Well now you can with the Boss Monsters card game. Essentially you are the boss of a dungeon and heroes go through your various rooms and try to survive. Your objective is to make sure they don’t. If five survive you loose, if you destroy 10 you win.
The original deck comes with heroes, monster rooms, trap rooms, bosses and spells. We also purchased the first expansion set which introduces hero items. The cards parody classic video games.
We have been playing the game with the two of us and it’s fun but we feel like it would much more of a challenge with 3 or 4 people.
Apparently a Boss Monsters mobile game is coming out. You can find out more at Brotherwise Games.
