Unplugging for The Weekend

It’s rare for me to unplug myself from the internet but I’m currently at my uncle’s cottage and there isn’t even adequate cellphone service . I’ll let myself relax a little. I left my computer at home (this is a pre-written post).

This will be a weekend of taking nature photos, exploring, hanging out with family and enjoying the moment. It’s seriously hard for me to leave the internet behind but it’s probably good for my sanity once in a while!

I Had My First Massage

IMG_4144

I recently went for my first registered massage. I have a lot of tension around my shoulders, neck and head (resulting in the occasional tension headaches). Generally, I don’t like to take Tylenol to relieve pain if I can help it so I decided massages would be a solution to try.

I had no idea how to find a place. Googling “Registered Massage Therapist in Toronto” was useless and still yielded many XXX results. I didn’t want to put myself in a compromising position or go anywhere that seemed unsafe. So I did what I usually do, I hit up Twitter.

I received a bunch of replies but Anatomica caught my eye because it was literally on the corner of Bloor & Lansdowne, an intersection I walk by every day! Another bonus was that they filed directly to my insurance and the less grown up paperwork I have to do the better.

Their current office is super new (they used to be just down the street). They seemingly popped up overnight one day because I swear to god I’ve walked passed this a million times and never noticed a massage place here! I think it used to be an art gallery type thing. It was cozy and inviting inside.

My therapist was Kate, who was specifically recommended to me on Twitter. She was super nice and made sure I was comfortable with everything at all times but also not afraid to dig deep into my muscles (I am not afraid of a tough massage). The blanket was heated and the room had relaxing music.

For my 45 minute massage I felt myself fall into deep relaxation. It’s totally worth doing every once in a while if you live a busy life. It forces you to let go of everything during that time (including your social media accounts). When I was done, I got up and felt like a happy blob of jello.

I seriously can’t wait for my next massage!

1000th Post!

Screen Shot 2016-06-23 at 9.17.31 PM

Yesterday, I made my 1000th post here on my personal blog. It is a huge milestone. I’ve also blogged more than 540 days in a row so far, starting from January 1st 2016.

I’m a very different person than I was in November 2010 when I started this blog. I’m not as afraid of the world and took awesome risks that  I would never regret. Not to mention the awesome people the internet has introduced me to.

Let there be 1000 more blog posts to come!

4 Day Workweeks

DSCF9954

This summer, I’m trying something that I’ve never done before. I’m working almost 10 hours four days a week so that I could take an extra day off on Fridays.

This was the first week waking up before 7 to commute and getting home almost 12 hours later. I’m usually starving by the time I get home. If you ever do this: bring a lot of healthy snacks. I started to bring breakfast (oats and granola) and carrot sticks. Sometimes I’ll sneak chips in there but not too much or I feel sluggish (so not good for concentration).

Another useful tip to make the most out of my time was to plan meals ahead of time. That way I had either all the ingredients in the crockpot in the morning or had Nash help start dinner. Seriously, a lot of my life planning revolves around food.

Sleep is key, though I know not every night will be an early one, especially this summer. I do a lot of (different) work outside of my actual job too. Health is key, so I need to be aware of when I need food and rest. I’ve also been taking vitamin D supplements because I don’t get enough sunlight from being inside all day. It’s helped my energy improve over the past 6 months.

Adjusting to a new schedule is always difficult, but I’m sure I will love it tomorrow!

Explaning Tattoos

If you’ve following me that long, I already told you guys the original meaning behind my tattoo. Now that I’m older, I get tired of people asking, or sometimes I’m a little embarrassed to tell people. After all, it’s more than 8 years later and I’m a completely different person than when I had originally got it imprinted permanently on my skin.

Now I just make up something, or have a new story on what it means. Maybe it doesn’t need to mean anything and is just something I have and have grown up from.

Show Hopping

Somehow started from no shows, to going to two shows tonight. Life happens unexpectedly. I’m super excited for PUP’s release show, so much that I somehow ended up with two records.

See you on the other side!

De-stressing

It’s a long weekend and I’m finally going to take the time to take care of myself for a bit. I feel like I’ve had a lot of mental stresses lately and I can feel myself wanting to snap at times. I also have this strange muscle tension at the back of my head/neck.

It’s busy season in every part of my life so I need some time to recharge, whether it’s cuddle with the dog, take some thoughtful walks, do absolutely nothing or more importantly: sleep.

I’ve been recording it and I haven’t been sleeping as much as I should lately. I keep staying up anxiously trying to be productive. I like to spend every conscious minute being “busy”, answering (staring) at e-mails, nodding off to books, daydreaming at empty blog post screens.

It’s stupid but I actually have to teach myself to let go, be a little lazy. Sleep. Play.

Reusable Pads

It’s super weird to post about menstrual pads but I recently bought these adorable reusable ones on Amazon and thought I had to share my experience with them in case other girls were curious about saving the environment and alternatives to disposable products.

I use a diva cup and for safety I was still using a pantyliner (mostly because I’m OCD and sometimes I never know when meetings will end). Liners are still wasteful, so I looked for other options and landed on these reusable charcoal bamboo pads. 6 are around $32 and come in a variety of designs. I just told the seller to send me any random 6 designs, but you can choose from over 20 patterns. There are also different absorbency types but I only needed something light.

They are super soft and have a button-snap to create a wing-like effect. I wish there was more than one button though because sometimes it can slight/bunch a bit. However, that one little drawback is outweighed by the comfort factor. I’d much rather wear these than disposable pads. They also seem to absorb a ton even though these ones are specifically for light days and have less odour.

They are super easy to clean. I tend to rinse them in the sink at night and then throw them in the wash the next time I do laundry and they look good as new. They dry super fast so you really don’t need any more than 6.

I don’t think I could ever go back to disposable products again!

Chillin at the Prism Prize

No time to blog tonight! But here is a random photo of me sharing a nail moment at Prism Prize with Harrison.
