What I Ate At Festival d’été

I was in Quebec for two days to attend Festival d’été. I explored food in the city a little bit (which I will post separately), but I did grab some food truck eats at the festival to continue my #tianaeatsfestivals hashtag.

Food trucks are still a relatively new thing in Québec, as they had local bylaws to change before they could have them, so there wasn’t a giant amount of choice. I did snag a bison grilled cheese sandwich from a nomadic truck called SAGA that was delicious.

On the second day, I had some Thai popcorn shrimp from a truck called Food Fighters 504.

It’s fun to see what food truck fare is like in different cities. The lines were super long for all of them. Here’s hoping more come to Quebec soon!

I’m in Quebec for Festival d’été

I’m currently in Quebec for Festival D’été. It’s all sorts of magical. I’m going to spend the day time exploring the city, so I’ll get back at you with more blog posts tomorrow.

For now, you can enjoy this video of P!nk flying over the crowd.

I Never Want to Build Ikea Furniture Again

The last week has involved a lot of moving, unpacking and building Ikea furniture. The latter is the most annoying because it involves unpacking enough so that you have space to open the boxes of wood and bolts.

IKEA furniture is definitely a true test of a relationship. Though, I did build most of it alone while Nash was working. The most difficult parts always involved pushing pegs into their pre-drilled holes. Sometimes I swear they don’t fit!

This shelf had hundreds of pegs

The good news is I’m done building all the furniture we bought, so now I can enjoy my new home!

Chefs Plate: Tumeric Coconut Salmon

Our second Chefs Plate meal this week was a tumeric coconut salmon served with green beans and a side of cracked wheat and parsley.

This recipe was easy to follow and now I know the perfect amount of time to cook a piece of salmon. It’s also amazing how flavourful you can make something with a few easy steps.

Chefs Plate: Turkey Taco Salad

We’ve been moving and unpacking all this week so we didn’t really have too much time planning meals and getting groceries. Thankfully, Chefs Plate helped out and the box came to our door step the day we moved in.

Yesterday I cooked a Turkey Taco Salad. All the ingredients were fresh and it was full of flavour. I loved the cilantro sour cream, as well as the spices in the turkey. Plus, it felt like I was eating healthy, in comparison to the takeout I was eating all last week.

Allan Gardens

Over the weekend, I went to Allan Gardens. Here are some photos of flowers:

Waterfront Walks

After the duck, we went for a walk around the Toronto waterfront.

Here’s a photo of a bunch of colourful canoes and the duck butt in the background.

We ended up with a trip to the Toronto Music Garden, which had a lot of beautiful flowers and displays:

Woke Up At Sunrise to Get Ducky

Today I woke up before sunrise to see the giant duck. While it may seem random to celebrate Canada’s birthday with a giant rubber duck, this thing has brought joy to all types of people all weekend. Maybe that’s the point.

While I wanted to capture the colours of the rising sun, I also wanted to watch the stillness of the morning before tens of thousands of people descended on the waterfront a few hours later.

Here are some photos with no or very little people:

Extended Canada weekend

Relaxing lots this weekend before I move on Tuesday! I am going to visit the duck in the early AM so off to early bed.
