Teddy’s First Barkbox

For Teddy’s June birthday, I subscribed him to Barkbox, an online subscription service for dogs that sends goodies and toys every month. There are a few other competitors out there, but Barkbox’s marketing and quality of goodies impresses me above all others.

How it works is you pick your dog’s size (small, medium, large) subscription plan and it is shipped on the 15th of every month. I am Canadian so I assumed it would take a couple weeks to get here and that’s why I ordered it way before his actual birthday. However, I was surprised that it arrived on the 20th, so their shipping times are impressive. It arrived in a branded box with cute wrapping paper.

A card spoke of the month’s warm weather theme and fresh ingredients.

Along those themes were these fruity smelling strawberry biscuits from Max and Ruffy that were wheat and GMO free. ($5.25 retail)

Teddy LOVED this corduroy cat from Loopies Toys. It’s durable but probably won’t stand a chance when Teddy decides he wants to unstuff it’s insides. ($25 retail)

These grain free chicken jerk chews smell as good as the jerky we crave the convenient store. ($12.99 retail)

Lastly this vanilla smelling ball from Mega Last seemed a bit big at first but the dog was soon throwing it around all over the place. I’d be careful with it indoors though!

#GooglePlayMusic Launch Party

Last night, I attended the Google Play Music Canada launch party! The service is Google’s entry into music streaming in Canada. For a limited the first month is free and $7.99/month (regular $9.99) after the trial. You can check out Google Play here.

The food was catered by La Carnita and there was plenty of it! I totally stuffed my face with free food and drinks. Everything was delicious, including a cookies and cream popsicle that was to die for.

The night’s entertainment was provided by Stars, Kevin Drew, A Tribe Called Red and Keys N’ Krates.

The room was familiar faces from my Twitter feed and I did muster up the courage to talk to a few of them.
There was also plenty of stations around with tablets and headphones to try out the new service. I will totally admit I avoided them for a little bit because all I saw was things like Mumford and Sons and Avril Lavigne on the screen but when I played around I realized there’s a huge catalogue of other music available and it will only keep growing. I also talked to a representative who talked about a hub that may be soon available to indie musicians.

As I left the party, they handed out a wrapped gift that happened to be a Google Chromecast. I haven’t actually heard of it before the fact but I’m excited to try it.

Fisheye Teddy

The Canon EF 8-15mm L fisheye lens joined the family so I tested it out on Teddy. He never actually looks at the camera but this allows me to stick it in his face!

Friends At The Dog Park

Finally we had some nice spring weather this weekend so we took Teddy to Totoredaca dog park for the first time. It’s the larger dog park in Mississauga and there are different sections if you want your dog running leash free in a smaller space. It’s also a lot cleaner than the previous one we went to.

Teddy’s still a bit shy, since he doesn’t go out much but he still made a few friends!

These were all shot using the 24-70mm 2.8L on my Canon 60D. I also used the right light from Photojojo.

Being Part of An Audience

For the past few years, every time I went to a show, I would be “working” in some sense. I’d either be photographing, writing a review, or both. It had been a while since I went to a show for the sake of going to a show.

Last Sunday, I went to Cloud Nothings as an attendee and as a huge fan of the band. I didn’t shoot it and I didn’t review it. I had a blast. I didn’t have to worry about my camera being destroyed by a rowdy crowd, think of the perfect sentences to write or frame the perfect photo. I didn’t have to stand in the front for 3 hours, hoping that nobody would try to steal my spot. Hell, I even joined in the mosh-pit full of bros for like 3/4 of the set. I came out smelling like man-sweat but it was worth it. For the first time in a while, I actually had fun at a show.

That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy the shows I’ve seen in the past while. London Grammar and How to Dress Well were breath-taking in their own regards. I loved shooting them, but at the end of the day it was still work. To be able to fully immerse myself in the experience last Sunday was refreshing. It’s so weird how sometimes when I’m by the front of the stage taking photos, how removed I can be from the actual show. I think this year, I’ll let myself occasionally step back and be a fan, an attendee again. It’s definitely worth the price of the ticket.

Dear Kids That Egged My House

I cannot think of any reason why you would’ve chose our house out of all the ones on the block. We do not know you and have never provoked you in anyway. I’m sorry for whatever reason you think that we deserved to spend a few hours cleaning our window.

I’m sorry you have nothing better to do on a Wednesday night but get into mischief in the freezing cold. I thought that in age of video game systems, social media, computers, awesome toys, there would be hundreds of other things to do. Sorry your life lacks those things and had to spend all your money on eggs instead.

I’m sorry that the eggs didn’t stain my house. They took mom an hour to clean, but it eventually got removed.

I’m sorry your mother has never told you not to waste food. Think of all the starving people all over the world who would have loved to eat those eggs.

I’m sorry you like Justin Bieber because that’s the only way you’d think egging is cool. Justin Bieber is not cool. I’m sorry that you have been brainwashed.

I’m sorry that I didn’t catch your face or your name but next time I’ll make it up to you and post it on all my social feeds so the world can know cool you think you are.
