Pokemon Jumper

When I ordered my Pikachu backpack, Japan LA also sent me a free Pokemon Jumper as part of a promotion. It’s like the comfiest and most random thing, but going to the washroom in one of these is still a mystery.

Brunch @ Love Chix

Yesterday was a super rainy day and our regular brunch place was packed so we headed to Love Chix instead. It’s location used to be the location of Farmer’s Daughter before it had to close down.

I had a glass of “OJP Ya Know Me!” to start (orance juice & Prosecco).

We all ordered poached eggs. I had one with fried brussel sprouts on a buttery bun with a side salad. The Hollandaise was nice and creamy. One of my friends had one.

Right now, this place is still not too busy for lunch but I’m sure that will change very soon.

RALPH @ The Drake 3/22/2017

On Wednesday, I went to RALPH’s sold out release show at The Drake! Full photos and review here.

Lisbon Lux x Ride the Tempo @ CMW

At Canadian Music Week this year I’m partnering with Lisbon Lux Records to bring some artists from Montreal to Toronto for the first time! Radiant Baby, Paupière and Das Mörtal have never played the city before, so let’s give them a warm welcome among some other great acts!

Pikachu Backpack

I saw this Pokemon Loungefly mini backpack in the Japan LA online store and I couldn’t resist getting it.

The interior even has lightning bolts.

It’s faux leather, but looks sturdy and well-made. Adding it to my pika-style wardrobe.

Dollar Shave Club

I’m now a member of Dollar Shave Club because I was just too lazy to go buy razors and I ran out. It’s super affordable too. The prices start from $3.50/month to $9.50/month depending on the type of razors you choose. If you’re not so hairy you can sign up to receive packages every two months.

Every month you conveniently get 4 replacement blades in the mail. The first month comes with a free handle. I chose the middle razor package which was $6.50 a month since it had more blades for a close shave than the cheaper one, which had two.

I loved it. It felt just like any other $14 razor. I’m never paying the premium price for pink razors again.

NYX Butt “Naked” Pallet

I had a gift card to NYX so I picked up this pallet from NYX.

It has 15 beautiful neutral eyeshadow colours that are appropriate for work. It’s funny because I have probably like 300 eyeshadows, but most of them are way too dramatic to wear in the workplace. I like these colours because they’re good for every occasion and also don’t fade too much throughout the day.

The bottom layer is blush, bronzer and highlighter. This is only like $22 which is an awesome bargain for this useful set.

I Made Candles!

Yesterday, at my friend’s bridal shower, we made Soy Candles! I learned that soy is better for the environment than regular wax, and healthier to breathe in. The pieces reminded me of mozzarella cheese.

Luckily, we made them in glass jars (not the pulling way) so that I didn’t end up with something like this:

Instead, it looked more like this. I picked the one that smelled like cake of course.

Now that I know how to do this, I want to research how much materials cost and perhaps make some on on my own!

Essence I <3 Stage Eyeshadow Base

I love the Urban Decay eyeshadow primer, but it’s too expensive to use every day. I can’t believe Essence sells one for only $3!

Quality-wise, it makes eyeshadow colours look more vivid and lasts longer than it would without a primer. I also use it as a lip primer for the darker colours. $3 is quite the steal for this.

We saw Get Out as an Interracial Couple

*Warning if you haven’t seen the movie yet, there may be spoilers but also why haven’t you seen the movie yet?

Last night, Nash and I went to see Get Out. As an interracial couple, I thought that it was interesting to see many other interracial couples in the audience.

After the movie was over I asked Nash if I’m just part of a grand ploy to get an Asian body for his grandmother’s brain.

It was a joke mainly because he’s also from an all white town and his parents live near the woods with the next house kind of far away. Of course it is perfectly fine and I have never felt unsafe. I was born in Canada, so often I forget that I’m not white. Plus, I figure 6 years and a diamond ring seems like a lot of effort for such a ploy.

I loved the movie. It was funny, but it also made me think about the micro-aggressions we all have (whether we admit it or not) towards people who are different from us. Just because I’m not white doesn’t mean that my own culture doesn’t have it’s own set of prejudices. In fact, there was even an Asian man in the weird town.

The most interesting part of the weird town in the movie was that I don’t think the people thought they were racist. They spoke in tones that were condescending, too positive, ways they would not talk to other people who were like them. “I would vote for Obama a third time,” does not equate to not being racist.

As an interracial couple, we had our own awkward times with the “meet the parents” scenario. In fact, he didn’t meet mine until two years into the relationship. He was the first dude I was ever brave enough to bring home, maybe because I was never really into Asian dudes. Nash became too important for me to care what my parents thought and they welcome him now too.
