Wake-Up Mug

IMG_3568Another addition to my Fred and Friends collection is this Wake-Up Mug.

With cold liquid the face starts off pretty groggy. Pretty much your typical (Monday) morning…

Once you add a coffee, the eyes widen and become more alive! Just like a person in real life.

I currently have a mug obessesion. Mostly because I broke all my normal mugs and thought I’d be more careful with novelty ones.

Time will only tell…

Adventure Time’s Card Wars

IMG_2273
When we saw Finn and Jake play Card Wars in an episode of Adventure Time, we wished so hard that it was a real game.

And it turns out it is. A single Card Wars Collectors Pack is approximately $20 and has two decks so two people can play right away. I decided to buy all the decks out so far (I think they will release more later). That way, we can switch it up and games would be different each time.

IMG_2276

One thing to note is that it is exactly like the game in the episode meaning that the Adventure Time characters (Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum etc) aren’t actually part of the deck. Though you can imagine you are one of those characters if you wish. In fact, there is a “Hero deck” (optional) that exists where you can pretend you are characters from the show and gain special bonuses. The cards are actually ridiculous made up characters with hilarious descriptions in brand with the show. There are landscape cards, spells and even punch out hit points so you are fully ready to go in each box.

IMG_2284

Like in the show, the winner of a match is damed the “Cool Guy” and the loser the “Dweeb”. Players try to protect their land so that their “Hero” (yourself) doesn’t get any hit points. Certain monsters need specific landscapes in order to work. The game is  a lot of strategy, fun and laughs.

Boss Monsters Card Game

IMG_2274

Ever wanted to be the evil villain in video games instead of the Hero?

 IMG_2281

Well now you can with the Boss Monsters card game. Essentially you are the boss of a dungeon and heroes go through your various rooms and try to survive. Your objective is to make sure they don’t. If five survive you loose, if you destroy 10 you win.

IMG_2280

The original deck comes with heroes, monster rooms, trap rooms, bosses and spells. We also purchased the first expansion set which introduces hero items. The cards parody classic video games.

IMG_2278

We have been playing the game with the two of us and it’s fun but we feel like it would much more of a challenge with 3 or 4 people.

Apparently a Boss Monsters mobile game is coming out. You can find out more at Brotherwise Games.

The Easter Tree

I updated my Occasion Tree since Valentine’s Day is over. Since Easter is the next big holiday, I thought this egg decoration would be appropriate. I also hid little chocolate eggs inside!

Sriracha2Go

sriracha4

I want a lot of unnecessary things from the internet but when I saw the Sriracha2Go, I knew I had to have it.

sriracha1

They are $7 each or $15 for 3. I decided on 3 because I probably know at least one person who would want this after seeing me with one and it seemed like a good deal. The one thing to note is that it doesn’t actually come with sauce inside. That didn’t matter to me because who doesn’t have a bottle of Huy Fong’s magnificent sauce in their fridge already?

sriracha2

The bottle has a very similar design and colour scheme to the classic sriracha sauce, but it’s actually different. Even the Chinese words are different. (I have no idea what they say).

sriracha3

But to the untrained eye, it totally looks like a miniature bottle for the busy person on the go. Now I can make sure everybody’s food is delicious!

Now I can have sriracha everywhere #sriracha2go

I got my order after 2 weeks or so. One thing of note to international orders is that the tracking system they use kind of sucks so once it passes the US border you won’t really know where it is. Their customer service does answer fast though if you have any concerns. Now off to sauce my Chinese New Year meal!

Google Your Name and The Word “Meme”

See?
See?

I recently saw a post where someone asked people to google their name and the word “meme”. So I did. The majority of mine are Princess Tiana related.

But some are bizarre.

What on earth does this mean?

Some results were completely random.

What do you get when you google your name and the word meme?

I Won 2048

photo 2

I was late to the 2048 train. I only got the game last week and I finally beat it yesterday. I feel strangely accomplished.

photo 1

In playing it a couple hundred times, I realized there is sort of a strategy to it, even if I didn’t exactly figure out where the “2s” spawn. Towards the end, I came close to winning many times and then finally did so by keeping these things in mind:

  • Stack numbers. Start by pressing left or right until you can’t, then go the other direction.
  • Don’t go down. When you have enough stacked, go up. Don’t go down. Going down leads to death. Alternatively you can only go down and avoid going up.
  • Get rid of 2s in the top corner ASAP. Turn the 2’s into a higher number ASAP so you don’t get stuck.
  • Careful with 2s and 4s beside each other. Think carefully when this happens and get unstuck or this usually leads to death.
  • Remember to feed yourself when you get addicted to playing the game.

Burger Socks

IMG_2008
For Christmas Nash’s little sister @immicaylaB got me these awesome burger socks by Sock It To Me.

IMG_2015I actually don’t own that many pattern socks and these are totally adorable so I decided to do a mini-shoot with them.

IMG_2061 For these photos I used the Canon 50mm 1.8 II lens. It’s difficult to use for selfies because it has difficulty auto-focusing. So basically I estimated by manual focusing and using a remote. This is the only full-selfie photo that turned out.

DIY Puzzles

Last year, instead of buying a card for Nash’s birthday I made him this puzzle message for him to build. I drew cartoon US and some characters from Adventure Time.

The puzzles themselves came inexpensively from an Asian boutique. I was browsing through Etsy today and found these unique ones.

This Puzzle Guestbook from Heartstruck designs is an interesting way to keep track of your guests at a wedding. It also comes in a variety of colours!

This 8 Piece Heart shaped puzzle is made from chipboard. Perfect for heavier art mediums like paint!

And if you want to keep it simple this Blank DIY Puzzle is perfect for you.

Happy Puzzling!

Anomia, Topple, Carmen Sandiego, Labyrinth Board Games

game6Another day at Snakes and Lattes led to more board game adventures. This time there was four of us, which opened up more possibilities and challenges.
game7In The aMAZEing Labyrinth players pushed the maze in different directions until they could reach all their treasures. The funny part about this game was that the treasure cards and the ones on the board sometimes looked nothing alike.

Like the TV show, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? you solved crimes by answering geography questions. I suck at geography but some of the questions were obvious and the board (which was a map) definitely helped.
We couldn’t figure out how to play Pairs in Pears because the instructions were gone. Even after we looked it up on our phones I still think we played wrong because as we chose our 26 tiles none of us had enough vowels to make any words!
game8Topple is pretty self-explanatory and none of us ended up toppling it over. So do we all win?
game3My favourite discovery of the day was Anomia, the card game. Players took turn flipping over cards from the deck. If we had symbols that matched we had to yell a thing related to what the card said. For example if it said “Seafood” the opposing player with the same symbol had to name a seafood. The player who collected the most cards won. It was hilarious when players pointed to the matching card but couldn’t get the right word out!
