I’ve recently become quite addicted to the visual pleasures that make up new social networking site Pinterest. You might ask.. “WTF.. isn’t it just like Tumblr?”. The truth is, it’s not.
Pinterest is a way for you to visually discover things. When you see a picture of some tasty treat for example, you can click through and find out exactly how to make or where to buy it. It’s like a shopaholic or a food addicts dream. Users can make boards to organize pins they find interesting. For example here are mine so far (some are empty):

It is a pretty ingenious little niche way for brands to get exposure to their products with a simple picture. If users fall in love with it, they pin them over and over. Let’s face it, we all fall for beautiful things. It’s like using the people addicted to reblogging Tumblr, but for free product/brand exposure rather than to spread memes and pretty photos. I’m quite fond of the food section. Right now there are a ton of holiday recipes I have pinned that are simply adorable! I want to try them all.
Food isn’t the only thing you can look at. I’m just afraid to become a shopaholic. There’s categories for everything such as weddings, apparel, travel. Pinterest is like a neat pictorial way to plan things digitally.
Right now the site is quite new and is invite only, but if you’re interested just leave a comment below with your e-mail and I’ll invite you to try it out!
