Mrs Food Face

IMG_3605

I finally found the matching plate to my Mr Food Face in store! Again this wonderful invention is by Fred and Friends. I have no affiliation with them whatsoever. I’m just obsessed with their products and have been looking for them at my local Winners, Marshalls or random discount brand stores!

The major difference between the two is that Mrs Food Face has eye lashes. Now we can have adorable creations in both genders!

Persian Food @ The Pomegranate

IMG_1190
I tried Persian food for the first time at The Pomegranate in Toronto. I was with Nash and my friend Karol so we ordered a couple of different things.

For my main I ordered the morasa polo (pictured above): jewelled rice – slivers of seville orange peel, almond and pistachio with diced carrots and barberries blended in saffron basmati rice served with a braised lamb shank. The lamb was heavenly and fall off the bone. The rice was very flavourful with all the berries, fruit and saffron.

IMG_1191 copyNash ordered baqali polo: dill and large green fava beans blended into saffron basmati rice, served with a braised lamb shank and persian pickles. His shank also easily fell off the bone. I thought that dill would be too heavy a flavour for rice but the amount they had seemed to work very well!

IMG_1192My friend Karol had one of the specials (can’t remember the name), but it was a tomato-based stew of yellow split peas, lamb chunks and dried lime topped with cinnamon. It was also supposed to have egg plant but we couldn’t find it. The most interesting part was this whole lime that was in the stew.

IMG_1189We also shared a few sides. They came with a delicious bread that we had 2 baskets of. The first was this maast-e saadeh which was a fresh creamy yogurt dusted with dried mint and rose petals.

IMG_1188The second was zeitoon parvardeh, a sort of vegetarian caviar made from a tapenade of green olives marinated in a pomegranate walnut sauce with a generous amount of fresh garlic. This was strange at first but super duper addictive!

IMG_1187I also had a refreshing (but salty!) carbonated Doogh.

We downed all the food. The aromas and tastes were awesome and the prices were very reasonable. We can’t wait to go back! A reservation is recommended.

I Need Sleep

milhouse

My week has been insane! Going out while having a full-time job is super difficult. I’m alive though! But most of my sleep has been counting down until I wake up. Except it’s like half of what Milhouse is counting down from.

I think my body is half caffeine at the moment.

Quick post again today before I head out to another day of CMW events! Yesterday I attended this mysterious event I was invited to by Fido. I didn’t really know anything besides that the hashtag was #GetCurious and I guess I was curious to make the trip to Parts & Labour.

There was a lot of cool art that hung about and everyone in attendance looked like they were part of the (visual) artist community.

I stuck around for one drink before I had to head out. It came in this cool mug we were allowed to take home (but I didn’t because I was heading to a show and I didn’t think it would be allowed in.)

Part of the night’s announcement was that they would be sponsoring Bestival!

I love that brands are seeing the value of music and partnering with festivals and bands!

So, my sister and I tried the latest app trend. My Idol, which takes a photo of you and turns you into a weird 3D character. This is me. Creepy right?

Wake-Up Mug

IMG_3568Another addition to my Fred and Friends collection is this Wake-Up Mug.

With cold liquid the face starts off pretty groggy. Pretty much your typical (Monday) morning…

Once you add a coffee, the eyes widen and become more alive! Just like a person in real life.

I currently have a mug obessesion. Mostly because I broke all my normal mugs and thought I’d be more careful with novelty ones.

Time will only tell…

Adventure Time SOCKS!

I saw these Adventure Time socks at Hot Topic and I couldn’t resist getting them!

The pack came with 5 pairs with different characters: Jake, Gunter, Lumpy Space Princess, BMO and Finn. Now I can inject a little more fun into my daily routine.

Delucious Delivery!

IMG_3611

Last Thursday, I was lucky enough to sample an order from Delucious, a new delivery service by Mom & Son team Mark and Lucy. Their mission is to help you eat more veggies. At the same time, this would aid Mark in helping his mom work less hours a week as a chef. If they could fulfill 100 orders a week, it would be enough.

IMG_3617

They focus on traditional Korean side dishes. Our samples included Kimchi, seaweed stem, coleslaw, radish, spinach and bean sprouts. At the moment, Mark and Lucy only deliver between 7-11pm on Thursdays. Our order arrived at 8pm, personally delivered by Mark.

Everything was fresh, and generously seasoned. It was like I was eating a home cooked meal in a traditional Korean kitchen! As you know, Nash and I have had plenty of meals around Koreatown. They also have a suggested quick Instameal where you just put all the veggies over a bowl of rice and top it with a fried egg for a quick Bibimbap!

You can order your own sides from delucious.ca

Thanks Delucious for the complimentary order!

Is Your Site Mobile Friendly?

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 2.28.40 PM
Last week, Google fully rolled out their new mobile friendly search algorithm. This means that for now on, if your site isn’t mobile friendly, it will affect where you stand in the search rankings. Google now marks if sites are mobile friendly when you search for stuff on your smartphone browser.

By default, most WordPress sites can be adopted to mobile screens automatically if you allowed it in your theme settings. In order for a site to be considered mobile-friendly, its text has to be readable without tapping and zooming, its tap targets need to be spaced out appropriately, and the page avoids unplayable content or horizontal scrolling.

You can test if your site is mobile friendly with this handy tool.

Weekend Relaxing

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I’ve been having this weird tension headache. I’m not sure that it is entirely a headache or just some sort of nerve thing to do with the jaw. If I open my mouth too wide, I hear this strange clicking and feel a lot of muscle tension on my left ears. Anyways, I’m taking this weekend to relax. Part of relaxing means splurging on really unnecessary things like this Pikachu T-shirt from Hot Topic…

I also revisited Karelia’s Kitchen for some delicious blueberry pancakes.

It’s 20 degrees in Toronto so I hope your weekend is as lovely as mine!
