Vinyl Me Please – May 2016 Edition

DSCF9792

Vinyl Me Please tops itself every month. This month is a special edition of Weezer’s Pinkerton in marble blue, with a pop-up interior. This one’s a classic, a record that every vinyl enthusiast should own at some point.

The interior gatefold had gorgeous pop-up art and a lyric sheet. I can’t stop looking at that beautiful LP!

This month also features an original 12 x 12 art print from Fuco Ueda. For the second month in a row, I was also the lucky receiver of a secret 7″. Spoiler alert: It’s Whitney’s Golden Days/Light Upon The Lake.

With the Canadian dollar kind of sucking, the subscription is a bit pricey for a Canadian but it’s a secret pleasure that I don’t regret indulging in because it always cheers me up to open one of these packages up.

Neko Atsume Sweater

I totally forgot I ordered this off eBay until I came home to it in the mail. It’s a sweater full of kitties from Neko Atsume.

LOOK AT ALL THE KITTIES.

More Origramis for My Desk

DSCF9684

I ordered another round of Origrami Square prints. They are the same kind as last time with maps and original Instagram comments on the back.

I chose this time to print more photos with friends on them to physically treasure memories and to provide inspiration at my work desk.

Tada! I’m very happy to have some fantastic ladies in my life and thought I’d remind myself that with some photos.

Photos From My CMW Show!

I’m still super excited about how well our show at Canadian Music Week went! A lot of friends and Ride the Tempo fans came out to support and we had a decently packed house on a Wednesday night. Here are some of my favourite photos:

Crazy Week

I have had the least sleep all week but I am having the best time at Canadian Music Week seeing bands I love. This year I have emphasized quality of quantity.

In my younger years I would venue hop half hour sets. It was tiring and not always worth the trip. This  year’s journeys make more sense logistically and I am appreciating what I see more.

I have also met some awesome people this week and experience moments that made everything I do worthwhile. I’ll write a longer post soon when I am back.

Busy CMW

Hardly have time to blog today! Running around everywhere meeting people and seeing bands. I thought I’d share this funny tweet about the types of messages people send me. If you’re ever trying to find someone, wear something unique. Don’t describe what everyone else in the room looks like. Hahaha.

Canadian Built

I added another Peace Collective piece to my wardrobe. This one is part of their new Spring / Summer 16 collection.

I’m ready to show my Canadian pride while supporting a great cause!

Vinyl Storage

DSCF9295

I started heavily collecting vinyl last year when I invested in a new record player. Records tend to take up a lot of room and the top two square shelves I was using started to fill up so I looked for other solutions that wouldn’t take up too much space in my small apartment.

At my local record store, they sold these stackable shelves. I only have one for now but if I need more I can put them on top of the other in an all awesome tower of records. These also serve as a good way to move records (which is of some concern when I find a new place).

How do you store your records?

Mini 7-Eleven

DSCF9284

I found this adorable miniblock 7-Eleven at Mr. Pen in Koreatown  and couldn’t resist!

It’s 273 pieces and unlike most lego building instructions the only coloured parts are part that you are currently working on. It can be confusing at first but it actually makes a lot more sense. This didn’t take too long to build, but I was missing a clear piece that I substituted for another piece and it turned out fine.

Tada! It’s so tiny.

Here’s the Lego Kwik-E-Mart for sizing. It looks like it could swallow it up!

Reflecting on 3 Weeks of Activity

IMG_3666

It’s been 3 weeks since I purchased an Apple Watch and started watching my activity levels closely. When I first got it, I was nowhere near achieving the 270 calorie Activity Goal it had suggested me. Since then, I lowered it and have been increasing it based on suggested levels each week and have been reaching them.

It might be a small (and probably mockable) goal, but it was a lot better than before I got the watch. In an effort to be beating them each day I’ve been going on more walks, standing up more every hour, using stairs instead of escalators and doing the occasional 7 minute workout.

Earlier this year, I had a scary episode of severe heartburn (or at least that’s what I think it was) where I felt like I couldn’t breathe and might not make it home from my commute. It had happened the month before too but not to the same severity. I made a small diet change: cook whatever I want to eat and limit buying pre-packaged (eating out at fancy restaurants will never go away) and bought the watch to encourage me to be more active in a less intimidating way than a Fitbit would.

It’s been less than a month but already I feel stronger, less tired all the time and mentally clear headed. Being more active takes away some of my anxious nervous energy and I’ve never felt better. I want to keep improving each week, with small goals, maybe eventually I’ll do something cool like climb the CN tower or something.
