I remembered when Pinterest was beta and it was like an exclusive club where recipes and ideas were shared visually. I loved it. It was a place to look for inspiration when it came to food, crafts, fashion and decorations. Now it almost seems nothing more than another place where people can advertise.
Although the site is still invite only, it has become full of marketers and people writing countless guides on how to market so and so with Pinterest. That’s NOT what Pinterest was supposed to be about. Aside from legal issues, it has also become a playground for people who love Tumblr. In a previous post, I had stated that it was not like Tumblr, but in reality it is becoming more like it. Everything on Pinterest used to lead to a page that taught you how to make something, more details of the thing you are looking at, or perhaps to purchase the thing.
Now on Pinterest, there’s just too much marketing. Maybe it’s just my friends who fall for and repin marketing gimmicks but I have completely ignored the home feed. As you know I have a music blog, but I won’t post things from it as I realized self-promotion on Pinterest looks stupid frankly. I had a music board once as an experiment but it is deleted now as Pinterest is not the right place to promote such things. I still use it for the crafts and food section because I find it’s the only section that still leads me to something DIY. Every other category has an ad to a movie, tv show, major clothing brand, corporation or too many Ryan Gosling pictures. If I wanted those, I’d look at this tumblr.

i cannot agree more. someone asked on facebook yesterday if they should get pinterest, and i couldn’t really think of a reason why people should get it anymore. Just like how Tumblr has turned into an overzealous weheartit, i guess thats what pinterest has become too, in a way.
I feel like this happens with a lot of sites. I know I liked Facebook better when you had to have a college e-mail address to use it.
Even than, some of my college friends are weirdos :)
So sad. Now people are just posting FB pictures on Pinterest.
