Snapchat is Fun

I’ve been enjoying my reunion with Snapchat recently! It’s much more fun than when I first joined and it was mostly just a place to chat back and forth. I love the Stories section which is a lot like vlogging your last 24 hours, but much easier. No video editing involved. You also get to see what you’re friends are up to in a less curated fashion than Instagram. It seems more personal and real.

Powerpuff Yourself

Have you turned yourself into a Powerpuff yet? You can do so here. I think mine is accurate if I do say so myself.

Hoco Apple Watch Band

Official Apple Watch bands are expensive so I went digging on Amazon and found this Leather watch band with decent reviews. Though the brand on Amazon said Oiitm, I got a package that said Hoco. It looked like the band though so it wasn’t anything I needed to worry about. Plus, I had never heard of “Oiitm” either.

The most important thing about quality of the band is it the adapters. A poor adapter will break and you could loose that shiny watch! These ones looked sturdy which was in line with the reviews I read.

This band is soft and comfortable compared to the heavier, milanese loop that I bought the watch with. If this were made in more colours I would probably have them all!

I don’t even turn on notifications for my family

If you have been on Instagram these pass few days, you probably come across a lot of posts pointing to the 3 dots in the top right corner telling and a message telling you to “turn on notifications”.

That function has been there forever. Brands and influencer are currently scared that an upcoming algorithm chance will make them less popular with their followers.

While this may be the case, popular things tend to rank better if you have looked at any other network. In fact the only people who the timeline change would possibly affect would be those with few likes (likely because their posts are unpopular or annoying).

Turning on notifications would just flood your already  flooded phone with more pop ups. That’s something I don’t even do for people I like.

New Toy: Apple Watch

Over the weekend, I got my hands on a new toy! My very own Apple Watch. The box is so inconspicuous.

I opted for the stainless steel black Apple Watch with a black milanese loop. It’s a newer style that was introduced after last week’s Apple Event. Originally, I was going to get a new phone, but the iPhone SE felt uninspired. I thought that money would be better spent on a wearable instead and since I seem to have everything Apple, I went with the Apple Watch.

My family has Pebbles and they are a good value in terms of functionality and price. However, for me the one thing missing was always a more comprehensive ability to answer calls and texts. With the Apple Watch you can do both which is kind of like a 90s sci-fi lover’s dream come true.

I fell in love with some of the other functions upon using it. For instance, the Activity monitor will remind to stand up every 50 minutes if I’ve been sitting too much. I also like monitoring my heart rate with Heart Watch.

In addition, I spend less time unnecessarily checking my phone. I can read all texts quickly on the watch before deciding if I need to do any further actions. Quick replies are available as pre-populated messages or emojis. You can also dictate your replies, but I probably wouldn’t do that in public or I’d look silly.

I’ve still yet to discover the full potential of what my Apple Watch can do but I’m super excited about this new toy.

My First UberEats Experience!

Yesterday, I was really in the mood for some cake to make me feel better about the horrible news. It was ice raining all day so I decided not to leave the house and try out UberEats.

I looked through regular take-out places like Just-Eat but they only had regular things you would order for take-out such as pizza, Thai or Chinese food. Uber Eats provided me with other options from higher end restaurants. I got super excited when I found a place with 3 desserts and ordered all three.

After I placed my order I could watch on a live timeline the status of the delivery. Once it was picked up, I was able to see where exactly my driver was. When he was close to my front door, I went out and grabbed my three desserts!

Man, now I’ll never need to leave the house ever again.

Twitter Turns 10 This Year

Twitter turns 10 today. Though it wasn’t publicly released until July of 2016, today was the anniversary of Jack Dorsey’s first tweet. I joined in April 2009. I think I may or may not have deleted some of my first tweets because they were probably really stupid or something along the lines of, “just joined Twitter!”.

I can’t believe I’ve been on the social network for more than 7 years. It still feels new and exciting and the people and experiences I’ve gained through it have changed my life. I live and work because of Twitter. I have a social life because of Twitter. I’ve done things and been places I never could’ve gone because of Twitter. It’s still the one social network I don’t think I could part with. I could give up everything else, but not Twitter.

Thanks for the adventures. Here’s to another 10 years!

The Most Dangerous Writing App

Screen Shot 2016-03-12 at 2.11.07 PM

Can you free write for a full 5 minutes? The Most Dangerous Writing App aims to help you do just that!

The concept of this app is that if you stop typing for more than five seconds, the entire thing will delete itself. If you erase stuff, it counts as you are wasting 5 seconds. So use the delete key sparingly.

It’s a frightening way to write. You can set it for 5, 10 minutes or even an hour. But who would torture themselves like that?

We all get writer’s block and this would be a useful tool to get everyone writing with less thinking. Often when we have unlimited amounts of time, we also have unlimited amounts of thoughts that lead self-editing, and less words on paper.

When I tried this app, 5 minutes seem like the longest amount of time ever. Every second is being counted down in the top right corner as you type. It’s legitimately insane. As five seconds near, the words become transparent, so it does have some warning that there has been some idleness in the production of words. Sometimes you just need to stop for a second.

I am currently taking the test by writing this article. This is scary. Will I make it to the end? If you ever see this published as a blog post than that is a confirmation that I have successfully made it to the end of 5 minutes. Oh my god I have 51 seconds to go. There are over 1330 words now in this document. The crazy part is that I actually can type 90 words per minute and am typing slower than normal just so I don’t run out of ideas. I type them faster than I can think of them and that is making this countdown clock even harder than it should be. I win. Yes. 5 Minutes have passed. Will you make it to the end of this writing test?

Snapchat Me!

I know I said I was giving up on Snapchat to focus on other networks but I can’t help but want to do that dumb face swapping thing everyone’s been doing. You know the frightening thing that does this:

It’s definitely not a network to ignore. Plus sending people hilarious things that will disappear is kind of fun. It’s the one social network where you can be yourself and it will disappear. Snap me random things!

Camera USB

I was gifted this adorable Camera USB! It looks exactly like a Canon DSLR (but it says SONY for some reason).
