I bought Keri Smith’s Wreck This Journal almost 2 years ago with my best friend who also has one. We were supposed to trade when we were done. I found it again recently and wondered why I had not finished it. At first I thought that maybe I had no time, but the truth is.. I’m pretty OCD about notebooks. Despite the title of this journal, it actually hurt me a little at the thought of wrecking my notebooks. As you know, I LOVE to collect notebooks, many of which are empty and wrecking this one was like a nerd opening a mint condition collectible and stepping on it. However, I’ve set a new goal for myself.. I’m going to finish this thing by the end of this year. It will be an adventure, and I’ll blog about my progress.

12 Life Lessons I Learned From My Puppy

Puppies are such peculiar animals and I never realized they truly do change the quality of lifeMy parents seem like much more relaxed since we got him and he is totally a mini bundle of joy to us. We got him at 4 weeks old, and damn he’s smart and crafty. I took note of some observations of things he’s learned, and I could really learn from him too. Here are 10 Life Lessons I learned from my puppy:
Adventures in Dream Journaling
For the past few weeks, I have been trying to write down or draw anything I could remember from my dreams in one of my Moleskine notebooks. I was semi-inspired to do this when my boyfriend started a Tumblr of literal visual representations of his dreams. I started off including the dates, but then I stopped for some reason and found it wasn’t really a necessary part of the journaling. I’m not sure what I expected to get from this but it will be something I will continue.. until I fill this Moleskine at least.
How to Avoid Carpal Tunnel as a Musician

I’ve been a musician all my life, but I didn’t start to have problems until I started hard 4 hour practicing when I was in university. At the end of my university journey I was experiencing pains in my middle finger and wrists. All those nights practicing passages and octaves 100 times had put a tole to the health of my limbs. I’ve done some therapy and research, and here are some tricks I have been using to prevent some of the pain of repetitive activities. Most of these can be applied if you spend too much time on the computer as well.
How to Take 15 Minute Power Naps

When I was in highschool, I had a summer job that was 7am-3pm. We had 15 minute breaks and I would try to take naps during them with an alarm set after 15 minutes. Sometimes the naps would make me even more tired than I was before I took them.
When I was in university, I took a vocal training course. I learnt a lot of breathing tips including how to take an efficient 15 minute nap. I’ve been doing this for years now, in between classes, or short breaks from homework and daily tasks. It’s almost like meditation, because the tip to good sleeping is to be able to clear your mind. This is a great thing to try when you have 15 minutes or so and you happen to be feeling exhausted.

Don’t Let a Blog Tell You What to Think

It’s obvious that everything said on the internet has to be read with a grain of salt. Whether it be what music marketing method works for you or what cure WebMD has for your current illness.
Lately I’ve watched my friends obsess over the growing phenomenon that is Thought Catalog. On my first time hearing the name of the site, my first instinct was that it was a place that provoked thoughts in a good way. However, upon actually browsing the site I realized that it feeds the same dribble that teen magazines are made up of. The majority of it is articles on relationships and how not to feel sorry for yourself that you are single. Maybe I can’t relate because I am in a happy relationship, but the worst part of all this is my single friends follow it like it’s their religion.

You Are Never To Old For An Imagination
I’m the last person in the world to probably act my age. If you meet me I’m both the most hard-working and motivated person you’ll ever meet, but at the same time the most strange and silly if you get close enough. I’ll also probably look like I’m 15 til I’m 40.
What triggered this fascination for imagination was the cartoon Adventure Time, which I didn’t know was more than just a viral pilot episode. The cartoon has some of the most ridiculously adorable and imaginative characters and plots. I showed an episode to some of my friends, but they were not into it. They thought it too random, but isn’t that the point?
In a fast-paced technology world we live in today, I sometimes like to wonder if old-school imagination still exists. I’m an odd one who doodles and writes stories and things on my spare time, but where do other people have an outlet for imagination?
My Best Friends Are Weirdos
Whether it is because we’re all a bit socially awkward together or because we can spontaneously start an interpretive dance party (as seen above), my best friends are always people that I wouldn’t classify as normal. I love people that are passionate about the most random things, whether it’s fish or Roman History or beating all the levels in Golden Eye. I love that they don’t let anybody else dictate what they should be or what they should like. It’s these weirdos I feel most comfortable around because I know they won’t judge me for being a weirdo also. Hey, I’m practically a boy stuck in a cute asian girl body, loves video games, Spike TV, food and watch my fair share of Jays games. I spent way too much time listening to music. I also am a little bit addicted (at least that’s all I’ll admit), to social networking and blogging. Hell, I’m blogging to you guys on a Saturday night.
