Adorable Shirts from TeeTurtle

DSCF2673

Ok, I admit I clicked on a Facebook ad. It led me to TeeTurtle, a site that sells cute, nerdy T-shirts! I ordered two as a test for $12 each, which is a decent price for original prints. My order came in an adorably packaged envelope with the site mascot. Wouldn’t you be so excited if you saw this in the mail?

The first shirt was this “Pokermon” T-shirt. Get it?

DSCF2678

It’s such a corny joke but look how adorable they all are.

My second choice was a more girl power print with a bunch of princesses gossiping by a fire. I think Sleeping Beauty is my favourite part of this.

DSCF2676

This one looks a bit looser because I accidentally ordered a “standard T-shirt” instead of a Women’s T-shirt, which are usually cut differently. That’s okay though! I love this print so much.

The prints are vivid and great quality. The fabric is comfy and soft. It also arrived sooner than I thought, since the shipping wasn’t very expensive (around $2).  I’ll definitely be browsing the site for more cute tees soon.

Damn it, Smithers!

I’ve been getting more Lego Simpsons mini figures in an attempt to collect all of them but all I keep getting are Smithers. Damn it Smithers!

Playdoh Pokemon!

DSCF2356

For my anniversary present, Nash bought me a pack of 36 Play-Doh! I love Play-Doh but I didn’t have it around as a kid because my mom thought it was too messy.

DSCF2358

The 36 colours lend to tons of possibilities so I thought what better way to use them than to try and make as many Pokemon as I can?

DSCF2362

I started with my favourite of course…. Pikachu!

These are the colours I used for him!

I decided to make a Tumblr page to journal all our Pokemon Playdoh creations so far! You can find it at:

Anniversary Dinner at R&D

DSCF2378
For our anniversary dinner, we visited R&D, a restaurant opened by Masterchef winner Eric Chong and judge Alvin Leung. It took over the location of the former pizza joint, Strada 241. The restaurant does a twist of traditional Asian mixed with Canadian dishes in a tapas style.

DSCF2371The Chili Crab Bibimbap ($18) was delicious and spiced by the kimchi. Our waiter mixed all the ingredients together for us (after I took this photo).

DSCF2368This Red Star Punch ($12) was sweet and refreshing. It contained oolong infused gin, hawthorn, mandarin, lemon and Shanghai rhubarb bitters.

DSCF2372

These spicey sichuan lamb Little Dragon Buns ($6) were perfectly cooked with flavourful soup inside each dumpling.
DSCF2373The sichuan hollandaise on these scallops and chinese greens ($23) was to die for. This was probably my favourite out of all the dishes. We wanted to lick the plate.

DSCF2370

Shrimp Toast ($12) was a flavourful bite of prawn, black truffle, cauliflower, preserved duck egg and english mustard.

DSCF2374Lastly, the Octopus ($14) was deliciously chargrilled and served with octopus crisps, a vegetable chimichuri and pureed eggplant that tasted exactly like the traditional eggplant and beef hot bowls you can order at Chinese restaurants. It was interesting that it was used as a sauce in this context.

Obviously we couldn’t resist dessert. Plus it’s a celebration. I ordered the Crispy smoked milk ($8), which came with marshmallows and a lemon ricotta icecream that was to die for. The fried milk was sweet with a surprise of smoke, a flavour which the ricotta and marshmallows nicely cleansed.

DSCF2376

Nash ordered the Banana Split ($8) which was no regular banana split. The fruit was fried and served with 3 delicious icecreams: raspberry, peanut butter and malt. I couldn’t decide which dessert was better.

We both enjoyed our dinner at R&D a lot and can’t wait until our next food adventure together.

4 Years With This Dude

DSCF0339

I recently celebrated my 4 year anniversary with this dude. Life has been amazing ever since he entered my life. We’ve gone on so many adventures (many food related). Looking back 5 years (you can do so on this blog even), I was a different person with stupider priorities. I’m confident being 100% me around him and that is the most important part.

Find out what we ate to celebrate soon!

Dollarama Reviews: Warhead Freezies

DSCF2334

I didn’t know Dollarama sold freezies, let alone Warhead flavoured ones! I couldn’t resist trying these out. They come in 4 flavours: watermelon, blue raspberry, apple and black cherry.

Of course they must be chilled a day before you actually eat them. My first reaction to the pops was “hey this isn’t too sour” but then after about 5 seconds you get the note of sour. I wouldn’t say it was “extreme”, it is just the right amount of sour to both tease your tastebuds and make them still edible.

Collecting Cats

IMG_1971

I joined the recent craze of collecting cats on my iPhone via the app Neko Atsume (available for both iOS and Android). The game is entirely in Japanese but it’s self explanatory if you use common sense. There are also plenty of game guides out there that teach you all the secrets.

IMG_1972

The game isn’t really one you can keep playing for hours at a time. It’s something you can come back to whenever you want to check on your cats (they won’t die). The premise is to lure wild cats with toys, food and more. There’s a diary that keeps track of all the cats you’ve seen and “photos” you’ve taken of them.

IMG_1970

When the cats like you enough they will bring gifts like feathers. In game money is two different kinds of fish. A gold and silver. The gold ones are premium money which you can buy with real money. However, I found it super easy to gain without spending a dime. Money can be used to buy items such as food and toys as well as expand and decorate your house/garden.

So what are you waiting for? Why don’t you start collecting some cats?

Trimming the Fat (of My Online Presence)

DSCF2287
I’m an early adopter of social media. I often join everything only to find out that things fall out of trend later. The “new Facebook” pops up every so often and everyone jumps on the ship only to fall overboard a few months later. Then there are the ones that do survive. What do you use? Should we be on all of them? I consciously decided that I don’t need to be.

If you asked me last year, I’d probably tell you that you should be on everything. In fact, I tried to be. It was exhausting. I even stuck on ello for way too long. I used chimed.in until it was dead. I saw the death of digg. I even used the “new Myspace” for longer than anyone else.

I’ve decided to trim a bit of my online fat. I can’t be on everything it is exhausting. I decided to use the platforms that work best for me. I keep trying to make Snapchat work for me, but it just doesn’t make sense in my life. I love Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, WordPress, Tumblr, Flickr and those will be my main platforms for now on. You’ll occasionally see a Periscope (I chose it over Meerkat) or a Vine. Google+ makes an appearance from time to time (I still get a ton of interactions there), but I feel like Google’s (or should I say Alphabet’s) recent changes will put the nail on that coffin soon.

It still looks like I post on many platforms, but most of those can be synced. Focusing on specific platforms now allows me to focus on creating better content and spend less time on my phone/computer and more time living.

All or Nothing Hopfenweise

DSCF2272
I’m continuing my journey to try beers with cool casings and so I bought Underdogs Brewhouse’s All or Nothing Hopfenweise. It has assertive hops but a sweet, citrus-like flavour. This one went down easy but wasn’t shy on the flavour!
