Love At First Sight

To fall in love at first sight is something that happens a lot in movies and TV but not something I really thought about in real life. To reflect back on myself though, I do believe it has happened. No, I am not talking about how I met Nash (that’s a much different story). This is about how we ended up with Teddy.

The day we decided on a dog was pretty random; serendipity even. Our parents have denied us from having dogs and cats as pets for years. Mom used the excuse that she was allergic. However somehow (i still can’t really describe how to this day), we talked mom into allowing us to get a hypoallergenic cat. Yes, we had begun the search looking for a cat. Me and my sister browsed the cats on Kijiji for a while but then something enticed us to look at puppies. And there it was, 6 hypoallergeneic bichon poodle puppies.

All were adorable but it was one specific photo we were drawn to and had fallen head over heels for:

We called up the owner of the ad and within an hour had driven across town to see all 6 puppies in his backyard. We had wanted a male puppy and chose the most active and friendly from the litter. 5 months later, Teddy is now part of the family.

I had not noticed this until I recently found photos of the original listing on mom’s computer. We had chosen the exact same puppy we had seen online. The one we had fallen in love with on the Kijiji ad was the same one we would take home an hour later. Serendipity or not, we had fallen in love at first sight and we were destined to meet Teddy.

He may come back all muddy, eat our slippers, paw at us for food but we could not ask for any other puppy.

Inspiration in Colours

The other day I went with my sister to Staples because she needed some things for school. I realized my new Pacman journal had been lacking inspiration lately, stuck in a sort of writer’s block. Then I realized inspiration just like life isn’t black and white. I decided to make my journal as colourful as life and my thoughts are supposed to be.

Are you stuck in a rut with writing?

Perhaps, adding a little colour can spark that brain. Don’t worry, I’ll stick to coloured pens on paper. I think youd all stop reading if this blog had multicolour text.
Your life should be more than just black and white, a pop of colour anywhere whether it be pens, make-up, wardrobe can add a little twist in your life.

Or I could just be trying to find a crazy excuse to buy beautiful pens.

Photographer In Training

Ironically, this photo was taken with an iPhone

For Christmas, I received a brand new Canon 60D and an 18-135mm lens. I’ve already bought a billion filters and accessories for it. As well, I also got a book that explains all the different Canon lenses. I think this is the start of a new addiction. I have tested the camera and the colours on it are amazing even in low light. It is far superior than dad’s Canon Rebel which I have used in the past. I still have yet to leave the house and actually do some shooting though. I hope to share with you my progression as I find my style as a photography. You are warned though, by now you know I’m far too weird and diverse to settle on one thing. Be prepared to witness concerts, food and just the beauty of life through my lens.

Shit.. I Forgot Your Name

What do you do when you for get someone’s name? Over the holidays, at networking events or even when you’re sitting on the bus, sometimes you are greeted by someone who you recognize. However you can’t put a name with the face. Here are some tips I use to figure out the names I can’t remember.

Dear Journal…

It’s been a while since I last kept a written journal, even though I have a billion notebooks. I was 14 then, and I used to write about all the trivial experiences of being a teenager.

My sister got me this Moleskine diary/planner and I decided to use it to catalogue my daily thoughts and musings, most of which will probably end up in the form of blog posts here. With an iPhone giving me daily reminders, I don’t need a book to do it too. Nash made fun of me for referring to to the journal as an offline blog, because really blogs are online journals.

I have to say putting pen to paper again is pretty exciting. If you’re ever having a moment of writer’s block on the computer, stepping away from it really helps. There are times when chicken scratches become something much more and doodles make great stories.

I am in love with writing and since I journal about my dreams, I thought it would be appropriate to write what’s on my mind while it’s awake, so prepare to journey with me in 2012. Thanks for reading and hope we have a great year together!

Resolutions are Stupid

Happy new year!

A new year is time to reflect on the year before; the trials, the happiness and the newly discovered. It’s a time to put behind certain things and start with a clean slate. For most of us, we make promises to ourselves, most of which we won’t keep in the form of resolutions. Many of these resolution’s often don’t make it to the end of the month.

This year, I’m not out to make these promises to myself.

Stealing Internet Is Customary

If 10 years ago, you asked me if you could use my internet I would probably cringe a bit since: 1) It would take up my bandwith, 2) It would take up my phone line. Also, if someone were to ask back then, I would have probably assumed that they didn’t have internet at home.

Before the inventions of smartphones, unless you were having a LAN party, you probably wouldn’t have brought your laptop over to someone’s house to use their WIFI. Now, stealing internet is customary.

I Need a Holiday from the Holidays

20111223-163005.jpg
The winter holidays is a joyous occasion to gather with family, exchange gifts and eat a ton of delicious foods. It’s the time when regular people finally have time off from their jobs and get to relax. For unemployed me, It isn’t really a holiday and I find myself needing a holiday from the holidays.

Perhaps it’s the fact I’m unemployed and my family has a sudden need to bestow upon me the honor of staying at home to watch after the recently neutered dog, cook the turkey (of which I have no prior knowledge how to by the way) and various other tasks around holiday planning.

I rarely have a social life outside of family time and my friend’s (and boyfriend’s) hectic last minute holiday work schedules. The holidays are far from normal. Oh well, I’ll put up with the holidays since I got an iPhone and hopefully a $1000 camera out of it.

As for the turkey.. I’ll keep you updated on how it goes. Hopefully I don’t poison people.

Move Aside Internet Cats

Cats have taken over the internet for too long. It’s time for dogs to take over. Let’s start with my bichon puppy Teddy. He just got neutered so there’s a cone stuck on his head for a bit. He’s his normal active self after a day and here’s a video of Teddy attempting to play with ball with a cone on his head.

Awesome Note for the iPad

If you’re a notebook addict like me, you might be interested in some of the options available for the iPad. My favourite is Awesome Note by Bridsworks. It goes for $4.99 in the iTunes App Store, but it’s worth every penny.

There are a bunch of free options for notebooks available in the app store but the functions on this one aren’t really comparable. I love the colourful folders and themes available for each page. They are also constantly updating it with more features. There are different types of notes where you can add photos, text, send to friends, add links. There is a calendar where you can keep track of when you wrote what, or did what. And if you don’t want someone to read something, you can add a password-locked diary. It’s a fully functioning notebook that can probably replace all the notebooks a notebook addict has at home.

However, I still prefer to touch actual books.
