Random Photos From Sackville

DSCF2138

I’m already missing the East coast! It was so relaxing to be away from a busy city. Our first day there, my friend took us to cottages near Shediac, NB.

DSCF2141

There we visited local shop Tony’s for pizza and icecream.

DSCF2142

I was too excited to realize my photo of Donair pizza was blurry. I could eat Donairs for every meal!

DSCF2144I had a giant scoop of cookie dough ice cream.

DSCF2146

In Sackville for Sappyfest, I stayed at Mount Allison University dorms. It reminded me of when I was a student in Toronto. The dorms were nice and clean.

DSCF2220

My best friend also came up for a visit on the Saturday with her newborn baby.

DSCF2222

We had classic burgers at Mel’s Tea Room, a place that has been there for over 97 years.

DSCF2226

This darling thought her foot was just as delicious.

DSCF2219

Isn’t she so cute?

Brunch @ Hopgood’s Foodliner

IMG_4375

Our Pokemon Go adventures picked a brunch place for us last weekend when there was an Eevee outside Hopgood’s Foodliner on Roncesvalles.

There are awesome looking fresh seafood options but we were in for a more traditional brunch. I had the Full Scotian which was a delicious plate of blood sausage, bacon, potato pancake, fried egg, mushroom and baked beans. Every component was different and super flavourful. I particularly liked the texture of the mushrooms.

IMG_4376

Nash had the Hoopgood’s Chicken and Waffles which had a fried egg and also coleslaw on the side. He told me it was the best Coleslaw he had ever had.

IMG_4373

To drink I had the Ginger, Gin Germain. It was sweet and easy to drink. Kind of like an alcoholic grapefruit juice!

Thanks Eevee for appearing in front of an awesome spot!

The 47

IMG_3643

There’s a kind of inconspicuous place nearby that my friend Ricky and I went in out of curiosity one day. I don’t think we were expecting to be eating therefore I did not bring my camera so excuse my terrible phone photos.

The menu is a sharing menu so we ordered a few things as a snack. We began with some wings in a puttanesca style sauce.

IMG_3645

Next up was the grilled octopus with a garlic almond salbitxada sauce.

IMG_3644

Then we had a board with a variety of things: Bulgarian fried cheese, cheesed stuffed sausage and a paste of ground egg plant, tomatos and peppers.

This is a decent place to grab a drink and a snack!

Brunch @ Me & Mine

DSCF1429

Yesterday, Nash and I went for brunch at Me & Mine. I think we were super lucky because we did not have a reservation but were seated right away.

Everything on the menu looked delicious but I chose the Fried Chicken Benny. Two poached eggs sat on a bed of braised collars and buttermilk fried chicken on a buttered biscuit drizzled in chilli sauce and served with potatoes and an arugula salad. The whole plate was heavenly.

DSCF1428

Nash had the Croque Madame Bread Pudding. It was a gruyere and ham bread pudding, poached eggs, bechamel, roasted rutabaga and apple slaw. I didn’t actually get to try any because by the time I looked over again he had licked the plate. So I guess it was good!

DSCF1427

He washed his food down with a glass of fresh grapefruit juice.

DSCF1426

And I had a mimosa made with fresh pulpy orange juice.

This was an awesome tiny place in the neighbourhood to enjoy a relaxing weekend brunch.

Street Shak Caribbean Kitchen

DSCF0937

My friends and I recently went to Street Shak for lunch. It’s a cute little  joint where you can take-out or eat in.

DSCF0938

I had some Boyland soda as I awaited my food.

DSCF0939

The beef roti was filled with an aromatic curry stew.

DSCF0940The Jerk Chicken Salad was juicy and flavourful with fresh greens and other vegetables. It was the perfect thing to have for lunch without needing a nap afterward.

DSCF0941

The Bajan Macaroni pie was their version of a Mac and Cheese and was creamy and delicious.

DSCF0942

The Fish & Bakes were Bajan style codfish fritters with a soft fried dough, tamarind glaze, zesty cucumber & lime cream dressing. Can’t say no to fried dough!

This is definitely a cool place to stop by for a quick lunch or snack!

NXNE Eats & Stuffs

Last weekend, I was at NXNE. It’s a festival I’ve been going to since before I was even old enough to go to shows.

I used to volunteer and used to think it was some of the best times ever hopping between clubs to see bands. This year it wasn’t like that.DSCF1154

There were very few club shows and they also introduced a 2 day festival within a festival that happened near Port Lands in a gigantic (an understatement) parking lot. 30 degree weather made it kind of unbearable but I still found ways to enjoy my time, including finding a photo booth of course!

DSCF1023

There wasn’t too much in terms of food but I did have 3 tacos from La Catrina food truck.  They had a 3 taco combo for $12. I picked pork, chicken and fish. I liked the filing but I thought the taco could use some toasting.

DSCF1157

The other place I ate at was a BBQ stand beside the Texas Tourism sponsors.

DSCF1159

I had this delicious chopped brisket sandwich. They literally chopped a slab of meat right in front of me and slathered it in BBQ sauce. Can’t go wrong with brisket!

That was most of my eating at that festival. There wasn’t a huge selection of food choices (the first day only had 3) and I had tried most of the other selections. Onto eat the next thing!

Craft Brews: Grow a Pear, Lemon Tea Beer, Hopping Mad, Peach Mead

I love trying craft brews, especially the ones with awesome packaging and branding. Here are a few that I picked up recently.

DSCF0649

Grow A Tree pear cider from Double Tree brewing. This one was sweet but had a tartness that made it stand out from other pear ciders which are usually way too sweet.

DSCF0648

This Mill Street Lemon Tea Beer was smoother than regular beer but I honestly couldn’t really taste the lemon in it.

DSCF0641

Central City’s Hopping Mad Cider Radler was an cool blend of apple and grapefruit. It was kind of like fruit punch and went down super easy.

DSCF0640

I bought this Peach Mead for Nash by The Trafalgar Club. If you want to feel a buzz this thing is like 8.5%. It’s a beautiful blend of honey and peach and recommended you drink this one chilled.

Food Field Trip 2016

DSCF0365
Last weekend, I was at Field Trip! Like always, part of going to a music festival is experiencing all the food trucks that are there. Here’s what I had this year.

DSCF0367Margarita Pizza from Wood Fired Pizza.

DSCF0373
Fried Chicken from The County General

DSCF0376
London Fog popsicle from The Pop Stand. I also had a cherry bourbon one I took a selfie with:

DSCF0378
Pad Thai Fries from Fidel Gastro‘s.

DSCF0379
The Porknado from Fidel Gastro’s.

DSCF0478
I get these Mac and Cheeseballs from The Food Dudes almost yearly!

DSCF0479
I couldn’t resist the keylime pie from Buster’s Sea Cove. I’ve had it before but it really hits the sweet tooth.

DSCF0484
They also had a caramel brownie one that was delicious but a little bit too sweet.

DSCF0485
Oh and you can’t go to Buster’s without some seafood tacos. I had one octopus and one Ahi Tuna!

DSCF0495
Lastly, Uncle Smoke served me some delicious ribs.

I can’t wait to eat street food at the next music festival. I found that after a few years of doing this, there’s very few places I haven’t eaten yet (until they allow more trucks to be licensed). Stay tuned for Bestival eats this upcoming weekend!
