So, my sister and I tried the latest app trend. My Idol, which takes a photo of you and turns you into a weird 3D character. This is me. Creepy right?

Wake-Up Mug

With cold liquid the face starts off pretty groggy. Pretty much your typical (Monday) morning…

Once you add a coffee, the eyes widen and become more alive! Just like a person in real life.

I currently have a mug obessesion. Mostly because I broke all my normal mugs and thought I’d be more careful with novelty ones.

Time will only tell…

Adventure Time SOCKS!

I saw these Adventure Time socks at Hot Topic and I couldn’t resist getting them!

The pack came with 5 pairs with different characters: Jake, Gunter, Lumpy Space Princess, BMO and Finn. Now I can inject a little more fun into my daily routine.

Delucious Delivery!

IMG_3611

Last Thursday, I was lucky enough to sample an order from Delucious, a new delivery service by Mom & Son team Mark and Lucy. Their mission is to help you eat more veggies. At the same time, this would aid Mark in helping his mom work less hours a week as a chef. If they could fulfill 100 orders a week, it would be enough.

They focus on traditional Korean side dishes. Our samples included Kimchi, seaweed stem, coleslaw, radish, spinach and bean sprouts. At the moment, Mark and Lucy only deliver between 7-11pm on Thursdays. Our order arrived at 8pm, personally delivered by Mark.

Everything was fresh, and generously seasoned. It was like I was eating a home cooked meal in a traditional Korean kitchen! As you know, Nash and I have had plenty of meals around Koreatown. They also have a suggested quick Instameal where you just put all the veggies over a bowl of rice and top it with a fried egg for a quick Bibimbap!

You can order your own sides from delucious.ca

Thanks Delucious for the complimentary order!

Is Your Site Mobile Friendly?

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 2.28.40 PM
Last week, Google fully rolled out their new mobile friendly search algorithm. This means that for now on, if your site isn’t mobile friendly, it will affect where you stand in the search rankings. Google now marks if sites are mobile friendly when you search for stuff on your smartphone browser.

By default, most WordPress sites can be adopted to mobile screens automatically if you allowed it in your theme settings. In order for a site to be considered mobile-friendly, its text has to be readable without tapping and zooming, its tap targets need to be spaced out appropriately, and the page avoids unplayable content or horizontal scrolling.

You can test if your site is mobile friendly with this handy tool.

Weekend Relaxing

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I’ve been having this weird tension headache. I’m not sure that it is entirely a headache or just some sort of nerve thing to do with the jaw. If I open my mouth too wide, I hear this strange clicking and feel a lot of muscle tension on my left ears. Anyways, I’m taking this weekend to relax. Part of relaxing means splurging on really unnecessary things like this Pikachu T-shirt from Hot Topic…

I also revisited Karelia’s Kitchen for some delicious blueberry pancakes.

It’s 20 degrees in Toronto so I hope your weekend is as lovely as mine!

Sansotei Ramen

I recently stopped by Sansotei Ramen on Yonge Street by myself to have a relatively quick meal. The place was small and there were little booths and despite being alone I felt welcomed and well attended to by their staff, unlike other experiences eating alone.

I ordered the Tonkotsu ramen which had black fungus, egg and green onion. There was no swirly fish ball thing but the broth was thick and flaourful. I ordered mine with thick noodles. The serving was just right (not too much not too little). If the Dundas location is too full. I recommend this one which is not too far of a walk from there!

A Month of Being Mindful

Happiness is this Oreo Iced Capp at Timmies
Happiness is this Oreo Iced Capp at Timmies

Today is officially the last day of my 30 days of no complaining challenge. While it was literally impossible to eliminate all complaining the month taught me to be more mindful of other people as well as play a more active role in solving problems. Honestly, I don’t know if it was the climb out of winter depression or this exercise but I had a very happy month of April.

I had less worries, but as a person that has suffered from anxiety/depression, being worry-free is simply impossible. I just focused my energy into getting things done or allowing myself more time to relax when needed. There was less of that in between period of pondering to myself or someone else whether I should or should not be doing something. Relevant to this, I read the following phrase in Amy Poehler’s Yes Please and instantly fell in love:

“The talking about the thing isn’t the thing. The thing is the thing.”

It’s the best because it implies dealing with the problem head on rather than complaining. It’s a phrase I need to write on a piece of wood and hang on the wall.

This was a great exercise to have for a month, but I am unsure if I am going to continue the same way. I will for sure be mindful and determined to find solutions but the occasional bout of unloading is not only satisfying, I believe it’s healthy. It’s day 30 and I am having the biggest tension headache and I think the biggest cause is not being able to actively off-load some negative emotions for an entire month. I’m sure I can sleep it off and tomorrow will be a new month and mark the challenge’s end!

Anyways, I tried that ridiculous Microsoft thing and I got 20 so no complaints here…

3 Different Cultures @ The People’s Eatery

IMG_1180
After a meetup, a couple friends and I hit up The People’s Eatery. It’s an interesting restaurant that has Jewish and Asian foods on the same menu. We opted to share a couple of dishes. In the picture above was the Indian Buffet Platter which had butter lamb, saag paneer, rice, pickled carrots, and more. I especially liked the lamb and paneer because they were very flavourful.

IMG_1179

On the snack menu were these latkes with trout, sour cream and salmon roe. They were light and fresh.

IMG_1178

Also from the snack menu were these sticky General Tso Fu which were a fun vegetarian take on General Tao Chicken.

IMG_1181

The main star was the Peking Duck which was served “3 ways”. At first only what was in the above picture showed up so I was confused as to where the third duck preparation was. The lettuce wraps were lovely and I enjoyed their fried noodles. Their spin on traditional Peking Duck wraps were also interesting opting for pear instead of the traditional cucumber, carrot, onion mixture. Their “hoisin” sauce was also a little different, kind of like a black bean paste.

IMG_1182

The miss on the “trio” was the consumé which was served separately. It reminded me of the soups my mom makes occasionally and tells me would heal my blood. This didn’t really float well with my non-Chinese friends because of it’s dark flavour.

Generally, I was quite pleased with the meal and it’s a perfect place to bring friends who are indecisive on what to eat. Here you can have a bit of different cultures!
