Celebrity Hotpot

DSCF2797

Last weekend, I went to Celebrity Hotpot with a friend.  It was All You Can Eat style for around $21. The menu for ordering wasn’t as vast as Morals, but had all the basics: beef, lamb, pork, tendons, meatballs etc. There were also a variety of noodles, seafood (some cost extra).

I really enjoyed the two broths we chose: winter-melon and drunken chicken. The flavours of both actually made their way into the ingredients we put in the pot.

There was a serve yourself section that held a wide variety of sauces, green onions, eggs and also soy milk, iced tea and plum juice that were included in the price of the meal. I had quite a few glasses of the honey iced tea. It was refreshing.

The two of us ordered way too much food but they didn’t charge extra. We went home full and satisfied with this hotpot spot.

I Roasted A Duck!

IMG_4723

I buy a lot of my ingredients on sale. Sometimes I buy ingredients I don’t even know how to cook yet because they are on sale. Last week I bought a duck.

I never roasted a duck before but I found the easiest recipe ever on All Recipes. It involved rubbing salt, pepper and paprika and then pouring hot butter on it at different intervals. The duck turned out perfect and the skin was delicious.

Now that I can cook a simple version of duck, the next step is learning the Chinese Peking Duck!

What I Ate at Camp Wavelength

DSCF2522

I almost forgot to post about the yummy goodies I had at Camp Wavelength. This year they expanded their food choices a bit so there was more than just burgers.

DSCF2606

Of course I couldn’t resist getting some delicious popsicles from The Pop Stand.

DSCF2595

I had so many I can’t remember the flavours of all of them!

Return to Yellow Griffin

DSCF2461

For our burger anniversary date, we returned to The Yellow Griffin. It’s been a while since we were last there and they’ve introduced a few new burgers.

DSCF2466

I had the Chilly Willy which was crispy onion strings, fried apples, and habanero BBQ sauce. It wasn’t too spicy but I loved the combination of hot and sweet. At Yellow Griffin you are able to choose what animal you want the patty to be and I decided to try camel. It was a tiny bit gamey but much like a regular burger otherwise.

DSCF2467

Nash ordered the Maple Spice bison burger which was maple poached golden pear, caramelized onion, Italian prosciutto, smothered in brie.

What I ate at TIME Festival 2016

DSCF2308

Yesterday was super hot but I still kicked myself out of the house and went to TIME Festival. Luckily, I found this Chill booth and had some pink lemonade.

DSCF2301

I arrived super hungry for lunch and hit up the Street Bistro truck, one I haven’t previously been at!

DSCF2302

For $10, I ordered two fish tacos. Although they were tasty, I thought the portions were too small for the price. It was like two bites of food!

DSCF2341

All day I was tempted by the smell of this BBQ stand so I couldn’t resist an early dinner.

DSCF2342

For $11, the portions were much larger than the tacos. I received a chicken thigh, rice, beans and salad. This was definitely worth the festival price. Not to mention the chicken was juicy and delicious.

By now, I have eaten almost all the food trucks at festivals but I’ll continue to be on the lookout for more and let you guys know if they are worth the price!

What I Ate At Hillside

Hillside was full of so many local eats. Here’s what I ate over the weekend.

DSCF1925

Flying Chesnut Kitchen had a dozen oysters for $20 so I had 2 dozen on the weekend. They were PEI oysters and super fresh.

DSCF1960

Of course you can’t visit Flying Chesnut without having an Indian Taco! They even had breakfast ones in the morning with sausage and eggs.

DSCF1958

Rodolfo’s Rebel Foods had a chimichanga platter with salad and nachos!

DSCF1998

Delicious liquid chocolate was available at ChocoSol. It was served cold to cool patrons off from the hot weather.

DSCF1999

Two Men and a Grill had bahn mi sandwiches that used kimchi as the pickled vegetables.

DSCF2016

I bought this random giant pickle from a guy selling giant pickles.

DSCF2048

I couldn’t resist getting a grilled corn at Sausage Brothers.

DSCF2060

The ChocoSol stand also had delicious tamales topped with fresh vegetables and roasted pumpkin seeds.

DSCF2074

Cashew chicken, mango salad and rice from LemonGrass Thai Food.

Lastly, I couldn’t resist getting a full order of nachos from Rodolfo’s.

Now a few more days until I eat the next festival away!

Twix Spread

img_3902 My cousin brought this strange foreign spread into my life. I’d had Twix, the chocolate bar before but have never seen a spread made from it. He also had a Maltesers one but the idea of that is gross enough.

Anyways, the Twix spread is smooth and strangely less sweet than a jar of Nutella. It also has a nutty texture that goes nicely on toast but a little awkward for putting in coffee (because I like to do that for some reason).

What other strange spreads are out there that I don’t know about?

Brunch @ Hopgood’s Foodliner

IMG_4375

Our Pokemon Go adventures picked a brunch place for us last weekend when there was an Eevee outside Hopgood’s Foodliner on Roncesvalles.

There are awesome looking fresh seafood options but we were in for a more traditional brunch. I had the Full Scotian which was a delicious plate of blood sausage, bacon, potato pancake, fried egg, mushroom and baked beans. Every component was different and super flavourful. I particularly liked the texture of the mushrooms.

IMG_4376

Nash had the Hoopgood’s Chicken and Waffles which had a fried egg and also coleslaw on the side. He told me it was the best Coleslaw he had ever had.

IMG_4373

To drink I had the Ginger, Gin Germain. It was sweet and easy to drink. Kind of like an alcoholic grapefruit juice!

Thanks Eevee for appearing in front of an awesome spot!

Kracie DIY Donut Kit

DSCF1607

Time for another DIY kit post! This time I made Kracie’s Doughtnuts. This one didn’t have any microwaving involved. At least that’s what I gathered from the instructions (I can’t read Japanese but there were no pictures of microwaves).

DSCF1608

There were the typical packets of powder that turned into dough and icing. There was also sprinkles and crunchy bread-crumb like things.
DSCF1612

These are what my donuts looked like after the mold. There was a vanilla and chocolate dough. As you can see mine are far from perfect!

DSCF1614

And finally here they are after I decorated it with icing, and sprinkles. Doesn’t it look like a five year old did this? It’s all the same once they make it in my mouth anyway!

Like all the kits, the eeriliy taste like the thing they are supposed to be. So doughnuts. Nuts right?
